Can anyone explain what the process is or what is going on here? He is "replacing" the staircase the old stairs were falling off. He didn't measure before coming out. He said he based it on 4ft "because that is standard" then when he got here they were 5' 3" according to him. So I see he took 6 of the old stairs off and replaced with what you are seeing here. The he like heat treated it or something. Hasn't been back yet and left tools in my carport. He said he is not finished yet so he will be back.

Do I make him tear it off?

I’m building a new construction home in Va. I’m going to give all the details here and really looking for experienced builders to tell me what i should do.

Here is a picture of the the board and batten siding being installed. In the zoomed in picture you can see that the batten is way of center at the top. initially the siding crew claimed that had to installed the hardie panel like this because of where the framing is inside of the house. Then they told me it’s because the plans showed it off center.

is it just common knowledge to center the board and batten on the gable? seems easy to me to start installing in the middle and move to the outsides so that you don’t have this problem. I would guess he was either working right to left or visa versa and the breaks didn’t land in the center.

Either way, they don’t think they did anything wrong. i’m just wondering if i should just let if go and paint it and move on. I think it looks terrible but im just over this. What do you think?

We dropped over $3k on this apron that was the budget for that.

Update: It seems the water intrusion may be seeping "under" the new concrete apron and through the foundation as opposed to on top of it and through it. See photos in the linked gallery for details.

We live in a circa 1915 home in the midwest and have for 4 years. A new roof was put on before we moved in, roofing company banged up a gutter which leaked and caused water to intrude in the basement (see first two images in the gallery). Previous owners claimed no water intrusion in basement (mild BS / ignorance assumed). We had the rain gutter repaired, but water was still intruding: The home had settled / sunk and the apron along the foundation was sloped toward the foundation and water was pooling and seeping through concrete apron/foundation/window.

Fast forward to today and we're getting the whole home remediated for mold (wife is very sensitive to mold). In order for mold remediation to occur, water intrusion can't happen.

We had a concrete company regrade+repave the apron as well as knock out and seal up the window (old coal chute). They presumably did a great job. The apron is properly graded away from the home, the downspout was connected to a buried 4" PVC which runs under the apron and dispenses its water via a pop up away from the home.

Job was completed on April 27th (it's now May 29th).

We've had A LOT of rain over the past 48 hours and are again getting water intruding into the basement.

Questions:

1. Did the concrete company choose to seal up the window in an appropriate way?
2. If so, did they do a poor job (as far as you can tell from the photos)?
3. If the 4" PVC is run under the new apron, is there a chance it was cracked during pouring/curing and is leaking water?
4. If not, what should / could they have done?
5. OR, is this just the nature of a porous material like concrete?
6. We've been told about products that utilize crystalline structures that fill the cracks in very porous concrete (aka old concrete) that makes them more water tight. Anyone have experience with these?

Many thanks!

Is this bad or do people don’t want to do repairs?

So I had a leak in my shower, it was in the back corner of the shower pan and it slowly dripped for months all under and around the shower pan. Everything is dried and treated for mold already. I had 4 guys come and take a look, they have not given me estimates yet. 3 guys said it was a big job, 1 said he can repair it. At this point I probably could have had a new shower installed already.

I know I need a new subfloor, shower pan, cut out old backer board, try to find matching tile(I don’t care if it matches) it really doesn’t seem like that much or am I delusional?

Opinion on this styles longevity.

This is not my fence, it is a screen shot cropped in.

I am leaning toward this style because it flows with my homes siding; although with the boards initially closer together to allow for shrinking.

Are there opinions on rather or not the larger boards are more durable? All i see around are the larger horizontal styles. Is this a bad idea?

Edit: THANK YOU! You’ve given me a lot to think about. I appreciate the feedback and advice.
