Putin Rereads Old Files at Night.
An assistant recounts that Putin has a peculiar habit.
He often rereads very old reports.
Some documents are years old.
Once, the assistant asked:
“Why do you still keep them?”
Putin replied:
“Because people forget very quickly.”
He opened a file from the 1990s.
It contained reports on the economic crisis, crime, and post-Soviet chaos.
Putin pointed to a passage and said:
“People always think bad things won’t come back.”
“Until they do.”
That’s why he always enjoys studying history.
According to him, the biggest mistakes often occur when people believe that the lessons of the past are no longer important.
And he doesn’t want Russia to repeat those mistakes.
