Docbloc

Docbloc Docbloc believes in the power of documentary storytelling and that solidarity is created when artistic movements are connected and collaborations are fostered.

Docbloc brings theatre makers, photographers, filmmakers, artists, journalists, and creatives working across nonfiction forms together for live performance investigations into the critical topics that define our times. Docbloc was founded in 2021 by Ash Marinaccio with the mission of experimenting with documentary form and bringing together artists working across documentary genres for conversatio

n and collaborations in live performance. Docbloc exists…

– to experiment with documentary form and bring together artists working across documentary genres in theatre, photography, film for conversation and collaborations in live performance

– to explore intersections between theatre, lived experiences, and journalism

– to build a community of multi-disciplinary artists working across documentary genres

– to create documentary work across platforms, in-person and online

– to use multiple techniques to capture and tell stories in order to portray the complexities of lived experiences

– to work in partnership with communities in bringing live performance to spaces where it is not often used as a tool for activism

Docbloc is thrilled to announce our newest collaboration “Play Without Ceasing” written by and directed by .

Wren Phoenix is many things: non-binary, neurospicy, an artist, a dog mom, a Goonie. They’re also a preacher’s kid, and a survivor of Project 2025 Christianity. Like most “ex-vangelicals”, both Wren and Ash have spent nearly two decades deconstructing their very old, very odd trauma — now a very new, very odd trauma for most Americans. What to do? In Play Without Ceasing, Wren invites audiences to church, a church service turned inside out and upside down — part docudrama, part q***r camp, part witchy revival covered in paint — we hope that the raunchy rubble gives release and a roadmap for resistance.

More soon…

We were thrilled to connect with our dear friends and collaborators at the and in New York this morning. Can’t wait to build future work together. The Augusto Boal quote behind us at feels especially appropriate to this moment, “Theatre is a weapon, and it is the people who should wield it.”
