This week I had the pleasure of teaching a group of voice teacher colleagues in Body Based Voice Pedagogy. We’re a community led by Jeremy Mossman , who explore a variety of topics around the art and science of singing and teaching singing. Over the past few weeks we’ve been exploring what it takes to move our singing from “Practice to Performance.” On Monday, I led the group through an experiential lesson I call “the Proprioception Warmup.” We explored how waking up our brain’s awareness of our body in space, our feet’s relationship to the ground, and our eyes’s ability to interact with our environment, are all “silent” things we can do to prepare our full self(brain, body, nervous system, etc) to be present and ready to sing. Thanks to Jeremy for letting me take the helm for a bit these week, and if this sounds like your cup of tea- contact Jeremy to join us this Spring!
