Wonderful new work on paper by Rachel Frank who explores the tensions between the natural world and the human-made, the animal and the political, and the past and the present. Frank is also a licensed wildlife rehabilitator (we ❤️ this!!!) specializing in the care of waterfowl and raptors. This intimate engagement with wildlife deeply informs her artistic practice. Working across sculpture, video, and performance, her work investigates the connections between non-human species that contribute to the protection, healing, and restoration of ecosystems.

If you liked Bu Shi's solo show 'The Lighthouse', you might enjoy the catalog too. Now available at the gallery and online! Published on the occasion of his first solo show in the US and with an interview about his use of symbols and their meaning.
"At the beginning, there were no symbols. My painting started from still life studies with extremely low contrast and brightness. The symbols began to appear around four to five years ago. They first emerged from the objects I repeatedly chose: for example, marquetry boxes, small ivory skulls I carved, stone ornaments on the table, shells, and so on. Or from images that lingered in my mind: pine trees by the sea, swamps, beaches, flame motifs in Buddhist sculpture, moths, nested spaces." (cit. Bu Shi)

The Moth House is a painting that holds many of the characteristics of Bu Shi’s signature style. It features the skull, the candles, the painting within a painting, and the newly developed technique of representing plants through a tilework pattern. The moths are intertwined with the branches of the bush, almost resembling flower buds. The arches, also rendered in tiles and recurring element in his new series, references architectural details seen in his hometown of Ravenna, internationally known for its Byzantine mosaics.

Day 4 at NADA New York. Find us at Booth D04 until tomorrow Sunday 5 PM at the Starrett Lehigh Bldg. in Chelsea.
Our curated booth “Veiled Terrains” bringing together the works by Elisa Bertaglia (b. 1983. Italy) , Bu Shi (b. 1993. China) , and Pippa El Kadhi Brown (b. 1996. Britain-Iraq) in a contemplative exploration of nature, identity, and the quiet mysteries that emerge at the intersection of Western and Eastern aesthetics. This exhibition proposes a space where visual languages dissolve into one another, forming hybrid landscapes that are at once intimate and elusive.
