As we are closing our show on Monday at The Bushnell in Hartford, we are reminded that on this day in 1965, peaceful marchers in Selma, including John Lewis, were beaten by state troopers for demanding the right to vote. The violence of Bloody Sunday shocked the nation and helped lead to the passage of the Voting Rights Act just months later.

And finally, our lead, Nic Brown! He embodies the strength, courage, and unwavering spirit of John Lewis and Jayden, the heroes at the heart of our story! Nic is a gymnast and storyteller raised in Winston-Salem, NC, who was a part of the Audelco Award-winning Off-Broadway Revival of NEC Inc.'s Day of Absence. Nic received an Ace Award nomination for Best Supporting Male Actor in a play at the International Black Theater Festival titled Heritage. Nic is the head coach of a girls' artistic gymnastics team in Harlem. Film/Commercial credits: FanDuel 26 Super Bowl campaign, VMAs '24 Doritos Promo, Where's Rose (Amazon Prime). Off-Broadway credits: Day of Absence (NEC Inc.), Swan Song for a Starboy (Spark Theater Festival), Damages (Ant Fest). Nic holds a BFA in Drama at UNC School of the Arts. And now, Keitra Bri Wilson, our immensely vocally talented Female Ensemble member, who also shines in multiple roles, including Rosa Parks! Keitra is a New York City–based actress, singer, and producer whose work spans film and theater. A native of Jackson, Mississippi and proud alum of Jackson State University, she made her film debut in A Day to Die. On stage, she has portrayed leading roles including Dorothy in The Wiz, Ma Rainey in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, and Doris Winter in Mama, I Want to Sing!, captivating audiences with her commanding voice and emotional depth. She also co-produced Emancipation: A Juneteenth Celebration at the celebrated New York cabaret stage, 54 Below and is the host of The Healed Feminine Podcast, where she explores themes of self-love, feminine balance, and spiritual healing while continuing to empower the next generation through her work teaching drama, voice and movement.

Starting the day right with our incredible Touring Stage Manager who keeps everyone on track and makes every show run smoothly, Stephanie McGrath. Stephanie is a graduate from Five Towns College where she studied Technical Theater. She is excited to serve as the Production Stage Manager for her first tour, Hero: The Boy From Troy. Previous credits include Gateways Haunted Playhouse (ASM, The Gateway Playhouse) Beautiful: The Carole King Musical (ASM, The Gateway Playhouse). Guys and Dolls (Master Electrician / ASM, Five Towns College) and Into The Woods (Master Electrician / ASM, Five Towns College). She is passionate about creating a collaborative, supportive rehearsal room and ensuring each performance runs seamlessly. Stephanie is grateful to her mentors, friends, and family for their continued encouragement and support.
