NYU Langone has owned the site of the AMC Kips Bay 15 for over a year, and local officials only found out after the theater confirmed it’s closing by the end of the year. The sale still hasn’t shown up in city records, and NYU Langone hasn’t explained its plans for the space. Seven officials, led by Assemblymember Keith Powers, have now sent a joint letter demanding a meeting and answers. Residents have also already launched a campaign, “Save Kips Bay”, hoping to preserve the space for the community.

NYC just announced the strictest school AI policy in the country 😮 All 600,000 public school students through 8th grade are banned from generative AI such as chatbots, tutors, instructional programs, etc. Overall device time is also capped. Teachers can keep limited AI access for lesson planning only. The moratorium kicks in September 10th, right as the school year starts 📚🤖

Erin Piacent was killed in an unprovoked stabbing in Times Square Monday. Her attacker, Pamela Cisneros, 49, also wounded a 68-year-old man before officers shot and killed her after she threatened them and tasers failed to stop her. Cisneros had no criminal record but a history of police interactions tied to mental health episodes.
