If you’re heading to Harlem Week for the food, music, art, and festivities, take a moment to look up.

Our ZORA! poster is now on the Wall Tower billboard at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture.

📸 Stop. Look up. Take the selfie. Tag us.

Because sometimes a photograph is more than a photograph.

It becomes a footprint.

Nearly 90 years ago, Zora Neale Hurston signed her name in the guest register at this very institution. On October 29, her story returns.

And now you have an opportunity to place yourself in the picture.

The Harlem Renaissance wasn’t just a moment—it was a masterclass.
A living curriculum where jazz became a global language, traveling from Harlem to Paris, London, Tokyo—teaching the world how to feel freedom.
Where Langston Hughes wrote poetry that redefined voice and identity across continents.
Where Zora Neale Hurston studied culture abs taught the world how to truly see itself.
Where Paul Robeson embodied art with purpose—proving that expression and activism are inseparable.
This wasn’t luck it was proximity . Community. Brilliance in motion.
Ideas met on stoops,in salons,at rent parties,inside churches and clubs—and from those collisions came global transformation.
Harlem proved something revolutionary:
Creativity multiplies when people connect.
And the world took notice—not of scarcity,but of the undeniable brilliance of a peoplewho made something extraordinarywith what they had.

Goggle Up! Travel back to the Harlem Renaissance and explore the legendary Lafayette Theater in this fun digital storytime adventure.
🕶 Goggle Up, Time Travelers!
A Harlem Renaissance Cultural Adventure & Exploration on March 27, 3-4pm.

Step into the past and experience Harlem during the vibrant days of the Harlem Renaissance. This exciting Digital History Story Time invites young explorers and families on an interactive cultural journey through one of Harlem’s most legendary landmarks — The Lafayette Theater, affectionately known as “The House Beautiful.”
Through immersive storytelling, music, and vivid digital imagery, children and families will travel back to the Roaring 1920s and 1930s, when Harlem was alive with creativity, jazz, and groundbreaking theater. Watch history come to life as the legendary Bill “Bojangles” Robinson perfects his famous stair dance, and discover the historic opening of “Voodoo Macbeth,” the revolutionary 1936 production directed by Orson Welles featuring an all-Black cast.
Along the journey, meet the cultural giants who shaped Harlem’s global influence, including Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington, whose music helped define an era of artistic brilliance and innovation.
