In a secluded cabin in the woods, a queen wakes from a nightmare; a king spirals; and their attendants - two middle ranking lords and ladies (“nobodies, really”) are left to clean up the pieces of a kingdom in the wake of a tragedy. Meanwhile time plays with everyone’s hearts as they wait for a prophecy to restore what has been lost.

Mary Hamilton’s 16 WINTERS, or THE BEAR'S TALE imagines the unknowable events of the 16 year gap between Acts 3 and 4 of THE WINTER'S TALE. Igniting a conversation between Shakespeare's classic and the next generation of storytellers, 16 WINTERS asks how we outlive tragedy, and reckons with the surprising and inevitable consequences of time’s passing.

Kea Trevett (she/her) is a theater artist and filmmaker based in NYC. Select NY stage credits include Roundabout, Classic Stage Company, Lincoln Center, Ars Nova, Ensemble Studio Theatre, The Sheen Center, New Georges, The Lark, Red Bull Theater, and Page 73. Her film collaborations have screened at Outfest, Newfest, Frameline, the Nevada Women’s Film Festival in Las Vegas, and Atlanta Film Festival. Kea is an Outfest Screenwriting Fellow, a NYSCA Support for Artists grantee, and a NYFA NYC Women’s Fund recipient, her work has also received support from the A.R.T./New York Creative Opportunity Fund. Kea is co-artistic director of Apocalyptic Artists Ensemble, she teaches at Sarah Lawrence College and Circle in the Square. MFA: Columbia University. www.keatrevett.com

Meet 16 WINTERS music director Avi Amon! And join us for a workshop presentation of a new play by Mary Hamilton inspired by the events of Shakespeare's THE WINTER'S TALE. Tickets available at https://apocalypticartists.org/16winters .

AVI AMON is an award-winning, Turkish-American composer and sound artist based in Brooklyn whose work examines themes of collective memory, grief, and being “in-between.” Theater work includes music, songs, & sound design for projects with: Arena Stage, Ars Nova, The Kennedy Center, New York Theater Workshop, The Old Globe, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, PAC NYC, Signature Theater, and The Public. Avi’s film music has been featured at Cannes, DOCNYC, HBO, Hulu, SWSX, Tribeca, and the Venice Film Festival. Scores for the documentary film, EVERYTHING YOU HAVE IS YOURS, and the NYTimes Critics’ Pick, WELL, I’LL LET YOU GO, are streaming everywhere. A MacDowell Fellow, Avi has received support from NYSCA, The Shed, the Jonathan Larson Grant, Berkeley Rep, Dramatists Guild, New Music USA, The O’Neill, and The Playwright’s Center, among others. Avi’s newest piece, MOTHER/ROAD, will premiere at The Shed in NYC. Avi is the music director at the 52nd Street Project, and teaches at NYU Tisch.

MARY ELIZABETH HAMILTON is a Brooklyn based playwright, screenwriter and mom. She holds her MFA from The University of Iowa and an Artistic Diploma from Juilliard. Mary was a Jerome Fellow at The Lark and has participated in Youngblood, The O’Neill, Ars Nova, I-73, New Georges’ The Jam, and Play Penn. Her play 16 Winters won The American Shakespeare Company’s New Contemporaries Award and was produced by them in Virginia. Her Sloan commission, Smart, was produced off Broadway at Ensemble Studio Theater and optioned by AMC. Mary was a Story Editor on the Paramount+ show “Why Women Kill” and is a resident playwright with New Dramatists.

ANN MCDONALD was President of the Board of The Shakespeare Society from 2007-2017 (Board member from 1997). In 2007 she co-founded the Hunts Point Children’s Shakespeare Ensemble and has acted as its dramaturg ever since (The Tempest; As You Like It; Twelfth Night; Romeo & Juliet; A Midsummer Night’s Dream; Hamlet; and Much Ado About Nothing). Ann was the dramaturg for AAE’s productions of Romeo and Juliet (2024) A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2025), and Macbeth (2026) as well as its film adaptations of As You Like It, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Julius Caesar. Ann also is a dramaturg for Shakesperience Productions, Waterbury, CT.
