Hailed as “extremely talented” by the Neue Zurcher Zeitung, Sergey Neller is a German conductor of Russian origin. He came to the attention of the classical music world as the 2nd Prize Winner of the prestigious 2016 Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition hosted by the Bamberg Symphony.
Since then Sergey Neller has worked with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Verbier Festival Junior Orchestra, the Ulster Orchestra, the Mariinsky Orchestra, the Zuidnederland Philharmonic, the Szczecin Philharmonic, the Oulu Symphony, the Ostrava Janacek Philharmonic, and the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra. With the latter he also did a play/conduct of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 25. Moreover, he recorded Shostakovich’s 12th Symphony with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra for Bayerischer Rundfunk. In 2018 Neller made his US debut with the Jacksonville Symphony, where he once again directed from the piano, this time in Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21, leading one review to describe him as “a remarkably talented artist”. He also participated as one of four selected conductors in masterclasses with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra under the direction of Daniele Gatti. Following a critically acclaimed new production of Rodion Shchedrin’s opera Lo**ta at the Prague National Theatre in 2019, Neller made his debut at the Mariinsky Theatre with the same work in 2020, also taking the podium for a concert performance of Ariadne auf Naxos during his time at the Mariinsky.
