For one wonderful weekend, the annual Holy Trinity Festival in New Rochelle brought us together through music, dance, and the traditions we love to share.

Our dance troupe gave three performances, presenting 20 dances from the Greek mainland and islands. In costumes representing Epirus, Macedonia, Crete, Thrace, Thessaly, and the islands, we celebrated the distinct rhythms and character of each region. Every time the music began, the crowd’s warmth gave us even more energy.

This season felt especially meaningful. Some of our dancers have shared the stage and a friendship for ten years; others joined us for the first time. Watching them dance together reminded us that tradition grows when we welcome people into it.

Thank you to everyone who danced, taught, dressed, organized, cheered, and made this year’s festival such a success. We’re grateful for the memories we made together—and already looking forward to the next time the music starts. 🇬🇷

The Holy Trinity Greek Dance Troupe of New Rochelle has been rehearsing fervently for this year’s Greek Festival—and for a very special reason: we are celebrating our 10th anniversary!
Founded by Eirini Metaxa, Nick Gregory, and Nick Kalyvas, our troupe has spent a decade sharing the music, dances, costumes, and traditions of Greece throughout New York and Connecticut.
For thousands of years, Greek dance has brought people together in celebration, ritual, worship, and community. We are proud to carry that living tradition forward with dances from Pontos, Thrace, Thessaly, Epirus, the Cyclades, Asia Minor, Crete, and the Eptanisa.
Join us September 18–20 at the Holy Trinity Greek Festival, 10 Mill Road, New Rochelle, for three days of kefi, friendship, tradition, and plenty of dancing!

This year, the Holy Trinity Greek Dance Troupe of New Rochelle is celebrating 10 years of dancing, music, friendship—and trying to remember whether the next step starts with the right foot or the left!

Founded by Eirini Metaxa, Nick Gregory, and Nick Kalyvas, our troupe began with a love of Greek dance and a desire to keep our traditions alive. Ten years later, we’re still dancing—and we’ve been fortunate to perform throughout New York and Connecticut, making wonderful friends along the way.

For our anniversary celebration, we’re traveling across Greece without ever leaving New Rochelle, with dances from Pontos, Thrace, Thessaly, Epirus, the Cyclades, Asia Minor, Crete, and the Eptanisa.

So come celebrate 10 years of kefi, friendship, tradition, beautiful costumes, and a whole lot of dancing!

The dance program at the Harvest Moon Festival in North Salem on July 11th beautifully showcased the remarkable geographic and cultural diversity of the Greek world. Rather than focusing on a single region, the repertoire took the audience on a journey from the islands of the Aegean and Ionian Seas to Crete, Epirus, Macedonia, Eastern Romylia, and the historic Greek communities of Pontus.

The program opened with Vlacha Naxou from Naxos in the Cyclades, a lively island dance characterized by graceful circular formations and rhythmic elegance. It was followed by Thiakos from Lefkada in the Ionian Islands, reflecting the distinctive musical traditions of western Greece with its fluid movements and refined style.

The energy shifted southward with the Chaniotiko Syrto from Chania, Crete, one of Crete's most iconic dances. Performed with confidence and precision, it highlighted the proud spirit and dynamic footwork for which Cretan dance is renowned.

From there, the audience traveled to Epirus with Marika, a dance marked by dignity and restraint. Like much of the music from Epirus, its measured pace and expressive quality conveyed a deep sense of history and emotion.

The northern traditions were represented by Ormanli from Serres in Eastern Macedonia, whose rhythmic vitality and distinctive styling reflected the rich cultural heritage of the region. This was followed by Baidouska from Eastern Romylia, a spirited dance rooted in the traditions of the Greek communities of present-day Bulgaria. Its changing rhythms and lively tempo challenged the dancers while delighting the audience.

The program concluded with the powerful Kotsari, originating from Kars in Pontus along the Black Sea. Performed with strength, unity, and determination, Kotsari is one of the most recognizable Pontic dances, symbolizing resilience and the enduring traditions of the Pontic Greeks.

Together, these seven dances celebrated the extraordinary breadth of Hellenic folk culture. Each region contributed its own musical language, rhythms, costumes, and movement vocabulary, reminding the audience that Greek folk dance is not a single tradition but a vibrant tapestry woven from centuries of local history and shared heritage.
