This past weekend (Friday through Sunday), we had the joy of participating in a wonderful Greek American Folklore Society event celebrating Greek culture and community.

Holy Trinity Dance Troupe of New Rochelle was proudly represented—both in the seminar sessions and through our live performances in Athens Square in Astoria, New York.

For those who may not know, Athens Square is a special place in the heart of Astoria, a neighborhood long known as one of the most vibrant Greek communities outside of Greece. The square itself was created as a symbol of the deep cultural and historical ties between Greece and New York, making it a perfect setting for such a meaningful celebration.

Our dance troupe brought that spirit to life, performing traditional dances from the beautiful island of Kythira. Their energy, pride, and connection to heritage were truly inspiring to witness.

We are so proud to celebrate the **10-year anniversary of the HT Dance Troupe**—a decade of passion, talent, friendship, and unforgettable performances. What started as a small group with a big love for dance has grown into a vibrant community that continues to inspire and uplift through movement and creativity.

Parathosi 2026 is an annual Greek-American cultural and youth event celebrating Hellenic heritage, Orthodox faith, music, and dance organized by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America (Direct Archdiocesan District).

Our dance troupe was honored to be invited to perform a demonstration this year, yet again. The costumes represent Asia Minor (Kato Panayia).

We are excited to share this 20-minute video from a program that celebrated the rich folk dance traditions of the Greek islands. It was such a wonderful experience to see how each dance tells its own story of community, history, and culture.

In this program you’ll see:
💃 Maleviziotikos (Crete) – fiery and energetic, capturing the strength and pride of Cretan tradition.
💃 Sousta (Symi) – a joyful couples’ dance symbolizing love and vitality.
💃 Ballos (Lemnos) – elegant and playful, often danced in pairs, full of improvisation.
💃 Divaratikos (Cephalonia) – rhythmic and dynamic, reflecting the Ionian spirit.
💃 Antipatiti (Karpathos) – a communal circle dance with powerful steps that honor resilience and heritage.
💃 Kavantoritikos (Evoia) – lively and flowing, symbolizing the ebb and flow of the island’s tides.
💃 Pyrgousikos (Chios) – danced in trios, with intricate steps that highlight balance, coordination, and unity.
💃 Ai Giorgis (Kythira) – a traditional song and dance honoring Saint George, blending devotion with the island’s joyful spirit.

Each dance is a glimpse into the heart of its island, passed down for generations and still alive today. I hope you enjoy watching as much as we enjoyed bringing these traditions to life. 💙

What a night! 💃🎉 The music, the lights, the energy—pure magic. My feet are tired but my heart is full. Nothing beats the joy of dancing it out and sharing the stage with such amazing people. Can we do it again already? 😄✨
