A lil' quarter tile mandala for day 6? of Jeeto Didi's 365 mehndi pact to practice henna everyday!!! How awesome is she?! 🌸🌸🌸

Grateful to for giving me a reason to set aside time today for this little practice! We have been teaming up to tackle some fairs and events as ! It was such a great experience working together for the Staten Island Bazaar last Friday hosted by .cups and ! The kanafa was so good! I want some more! (Pictures coming in the next few weeks!)

And we have another event lined up later this month: Heeramandi South Asian Jewellery Expo in NYC hosted by ! It's exciting to be putting myself out there with Aiyesha by my side and getting to blend strengths and ideas to provide a quality experience! Thanks for reaching out to me again, girl! 🙏🏼💗

These were my 3 contributions to the beautiful and inspiring art that came out of !

Kristin spent only one afternoon/evening with us and I saw her sparkly, purple nails and immediately tried to dream up a design to try on her... my placement of the scarf piece was a bit off, but after some collaborating and brainstorming, I added some leafy vines to try to visually balance things a bit more. Thank you for your time and your beautiful manicure, Kristin 💖!

Lisa generously offered me one of her hands to work on. I really wanted to try to recreate this design I did back in 2017 after it was critiqued in 's artist's choice class.. I think I want to keep working on it. In the middle of creating this design my eyes started watering uncontrollably (maybe I put henna in them?) And it was hard to stay fully focused.. still, I kinda love this shot Lisa sent later with the stain over frothy rice water!

Finally, on the last day of sling, right before we headed out to the picnic, Taylor challenged me to create a hand piece for her in jagua that looked like it was coming out of her epic tatooed sleeve.. we used a reference photo and I don't recall the original artist now.. I tried to keep the gel in a thin layer so it would dry quickly... except that one leaf where i squeezed it out like henna paste 😂 super out of my depth with jagua, but I hope to work with it more before the next sling!

All in all, I'm happy with my efforts! I'm grateful for all the connections I made and I'm so looking forward to being back in MN with my henna sisters again soon!

This week, I also referred to myself as an amateur henna artist, but i think I'm going to have to update that title a bit... I'm definitely a novice when it comes to a henna business.. and speed 💀 maybe.. Super Slow Intermediate Henna Artist? 🤣🤣🤣 i need help clearly. Drop some ideas in the comments!

Day 24: Shading

Is it perfect? So far from it!
Do I need to work on stamina? For sure!

Do I see improvement though? I think I do!

It's always tough to see beyond the mistakes up close... from far off, I love it! 🤣

I got a great tip today about not letting my paste get too warm (I have hot hands!). Warm paste = runny paste. Runny paste + shaky hands = messy work! After feeling a bit discouraged about the wonky shading lines in the flower on the lower right side, I popped the cone in the freezer for maybe a minute or two.. pulled it back out again and had more success with the next 3 flowers. Each petal is different - some are more neat than others - so I want to keep working on intentional uniformity! Also, revisited spirals... more work to be done! Lol.

Day 21 & 22: Festival/Party & Spirals and Swirls!

It's 1am in NY and we're officially on day 22. So I decided to whip-up a quick swirly, festival strip by before I say goodnight! I worked hard on these spirals 😭, but we still have a ways to go!

It was a busy day today (as is everyday with a homeschooled 5 year old)! And looking like it'll be another busy one tomorrow, so I'm being realistic and giving myself some grace.

I cant wait to learn from Victoria, and @ henna conference this year!!! It's so close and I'm dying of excitement!!!
