One hundred years ago TODAY our buddy, San, was born in New Orleans! Happy 100th, San! 🎉 The two of us are lucky to have spent two life-changing years working alongside San Nicholas on the creation of the musical that will encapsulate his life story and carry on his legacy 🌟

A story that isn’t in the musical and that many do not know surrounding San Nicholas’s birthday is that for years, it was celebrated on both November 18th AND 19th. Why? San was SO popular in SO many social circles during the height of his career as a Mardi Gras Costume Designer that he strategically told some folks that his birthday was the 18th and others the 19th so everyone could feel special enough to have celebrated with San Nicholas on his “actual” birthday 🎊 If anyone reading this ever celebrated with San on the 18th of November, we are sorry to say that you were a part of the “fake birthday” crowd…

We (, , and Conceiver ) are so thankful that San Nicholas’s legacy is living on in the form of a museum exhibit at The Louisiana State Museum’s Presbytère () ⚜️ If you’re in , stop by to experience sketches, costumes, artifacts, and an in-depth look into the life and career of San in his exhibit titled “To Be A Star: The Carnival Costume Designs of San Nicholas” (open through December of 2026)!

We’re graduates! 🎓 The two of us have officially received our certificates from the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop 🎉 We’ve had the pleasure of working alongside so many incredible creatives in our cohort 🎶 Thanks to .wordsworth, , Rick Freyer, and Pat Cooke for leading the charge these past two years!

San in Concert was a smashing success! Our incredible cast and band brought the house down at Le Petit Théâtre Du Vieux Carré showcasing music from our new musical in the city it all started from ⚜️
•
With the hope of carrying on the legacy and celebrating the life of Mardi Gras designer San Nicholas, San in Concert marked the first time this musical was presented in New Orleans, welcomed in the two weeks leading to Mardi Gras, and acted as the opening ceremony to the brand new exhibit at The Lousiana State Museum’s Presbytére titled “To Be A Star: the Carnival Costume Designs of San Nicholas” — named after the final song in Act I of our show - To Be A Star” 🌟

Our whirlwind month of rehearsing with our Broadway and Off-Broadway cast in New York, rehearsing with our Big Easy-based band and youth performer in New Orleans, a TV appearance, a radio spot, and the concert and exhibit opening (with a short Second Line in the mix) has officially come to an end and we are so grateful for all of the talented and creative folks who touched this project since the very beginning!

Special thanks to Becca Glantz for your undying dedication to the circus that is our work-life, to Le Petit Théâtre for hosting this concert, to Louisiana State Museum Curator of Costumes and Textiles Wayne Phillips and Executive Director of The Louisiana Museum Foundation Kristin Shannon for your care in preserving San’s story and creations, to our powerhouse cast and band, to our fiancées, parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who continue to express their never-ending support for us and San, and most importantly to Rocky Russo — San’s closest friend and confidant, the keeper of San’s story for over a quarter century, and the reason why San’s story will live on in this musical 🎵
