We specialize in Golden Age musical theater with an eye toward the new age of theater. Each season Summer Lyric Theatre employs the talents of over 200 paid and volunteer actors, singers, dancers, musicians, directors, choreographers, designers and technical artists. Hundreds of individuals audition each year to be a part of the Summer Lyric experience, an experience many characterize as among the

best and most professional theatrical opportunities in the Gulf South region. This standard of artistic excellence, for which Summer Lyric is known, has become a hallmark and gives young emergent talent the opportunity to work alongside professionals in a truly collaborative atmosphere.

This week, Ashley Smetherman Lemmler and Leonard Raybon take center stage as DĂŠsirĂŠe Armfeldt and Fredrik Egerman in A Little Night Music.
Longtime Summer Lyric audiences may remember them from our 2013 production, where they played the feuding couple Countess Charlotte Malcolm and Count Carl-Magnus Malcolm.
Thirteen years later, they return to Sondheim’s beloved musical in its leading roles, bringing new depth, experience, and artistry to this enchanting story of love, longing, and second chances. Few artists have shaped the American musical theatre like Stephen Sondheim. Widely recognized as the most innovative, influential, and important composer-lyricist in modern Broadway history, Sondheim spent more than 50 years setting an unmatched standard of brilliance, sophistication, and artistic integrity. He earned eight Tony Awards—more than any other composer—including Best Original Score for A Little Night Music in 1973.
This summer, experience one of his crowning achievements as Summer Lyric Theatre at Tulane University presents A Little Night Music—the Tony Award-winning musical featuring the unforgettable classic “Send in the Clowns.” Set against a dreamy Swedish midsummer backdrop, this witty, romantic, and bittersweet masterpiece explores love, longing, and second chances through Sondheim’s exquisite, waltz-inspired score.
