A New Orleans resident, by way of Austin, Becky Fos is a bit of a Renaissance Woman. An everyday mom, Fos is a popular artist in the Big Easy with a streak of burning creative rivaled only by her daily goal of living an active lifestyle. Through her constant healthy pursuits she has been nominated as a Brigade Ambassador for Evamor Alkaline Water as well as a Store Ambassador for Lululemon Athleti

ca New Orleans. Her impasto technique – applying wet, undiluted oil paint with her palette knife – is unapologetically bold and energetic, using color as her forefront. Over the years, her knife strokes have become heavier and thicker, with some of the oil paint being raised half an inch off the canvas. Her art can be found at her gallery space at Gallery B. Fos on famous Magazine Street. When she is not painting in the studio or being mom to her son, Jude, Becky can be found on the levee preparing for a marathon, at the yoga studio meditating, or killing a session of CrossFit or Krav Maga.

“Everyday starts with a workout for me. It clears my mind and allows me to unleash the creative energy I need for whatever painting I may be working on at the time,” says Fos. “It also gives me the energy to chase Jude around when I’m not painting!”


Artist Statement: “For me, painting is the most authentic way to express myself. I am not good with words, so I just want to keep this short. I feel enormously blessed to live in New Orleans. And I’m inspired by everything . I gather boundless inspiration from all corners of this wild, beautiful, and colorful city. New Orleans is my muse. I try to transform the spirit of my inspirations into oil paintings with my trusty palette knife. I choose the colors on my palette, but in the end the colors really choose me.”

21 years ago… where were you when Katrina changed everything?

I evacuated in my little black, two-door Jeep Wrangler (before four-doors were even a thing 😂) and just drove… with no real plan and no idea what we would have to come home to.

I took that opportunity to travel through Texas to visit my family, then looped all of the surrounding states and eventually fell in love with Santa Fe and Taos, wondering if maybe I’d start over there if Katrina left nothing. I was a hairdresser at the time and I could definitely visualize myself there with the breath taking backdrop and artsy atmosphere!

But like most, I came home. ⚜️

You never know just how strong you are until you get completely knocked down. Katrina taught us so much! 💪 🌀

A few years ago I painting captures the radar as Katrina approached the Gulf Coast… a moment that changed us forever.

Happy National Dog Day! Every time I am asked to paint a dog, I am so honored because I know how special the bond is between us and our dogs. So honored to reveal this year’s 51st Andouille Sausage Festival poster, sponsored by Magnolia Group (their logo is actually subliminally painted as the sun) ☀️ !

I wanted this piece to carry a special emotion while honoring Dana Bardell Wallace, the beloved artist who created many of the festival’s posters before me and recently passed away. 🙏🏼 I hope that I captured her colorful spirit in the pelican perched front and center.

Off in the distance, you’ll find a smokehouse tucked into the cypress swamp and Dana’s initials carved into the tree beneath the pink ribbon,🎀 .

Green means GO! 💚 Consider this your sign to do the thing.

The color hunt continues… and this time we’re going GREEN! 🐸

Searching for every shade of green turned into one wild, vibrant scavenger hunt. From deep, moody greens to the brightest little pops of nature, this color is everywhere you look down here in South Louisiana.

To me, green feels like growth, fresh starts, and good energy. It brings a blank canvas to life and reminds me just how much beauty is growing all around us.

So, go outside and take a look. What’s the first green thing you notice? 🌿 Tell me below!

What would you name this beauty? ✨

Pam and Vin commissioned me to paint one of my favorite sights in the French Quarter (a scene that my husband has been requesting me to paint for years now 😆), the shadow of Jesus behind St. Louis Cathedral, affectionately nicknamed “Touchdown Jesus.” 🙌🏼✝️

They were a little hesitant about the nickname at first … but we’re people of faith, we love Jesus and I happen to truly believe that Jesus has a sense of humor, too!

At night, His statue casts this incredible shadow across the back of the cathedral, arms raised toward Heaven. It’s spiritual, beautiful, a little quirky, and so uniquely New Orleans.

I absolutely loved painting this nighttime scene. 🌙

“Mess with the Bull, Get the Horns.”

Painting #8: And just like that… the final painting in my Figuratively Speaking series! 🐂

My husband sometimes calls me a bull in a china cabinet… although if you saw my closet, you’d understand. 😂 Not because I’m breaking china, but because it can look like a Category 5 hurricane rolled through in a matter of minutes!

This one was inspired by that iconic Breakfast Club line: “Mess with the bull, you get the horns.”

I’ve always been a kind, happy-go-lucky person, but over the years, especially as a business owner, I’ve learned that sometimes people mistake kindness for weakness and I’ve allowed myself to be taken advantage of (just like everyone else). Experience teaches you when to stand your ground, trust your gut…and every now and then, show ’em the horns. lol

Painting this series caused me to step outside my comfort zone, trying something new, and learning a little more about myself along the way. 🐂

Painting #6: “When Pigs Fly”, 🐷✨

Early in my career, I applied to different art galleries and local art markets and heard NO more times than I care to remember. Apparently, some people thought I’d succeed when pigs fly. Good thing I never stopped believing in myself.

I kept painting. Kept applying. Kept showing up. And most importantly, I kept betting on ME.

Your dreams are in your heart for a reason. Follow them. Believe in them, even when no one else does. Because sometimes the impossible just needs a little persistence…and a pig brave enough to grow wings. 🐷🪽
