IDA RELIEF FUNDRAISER /// BENNIE PETE RIP /// LOCAL BENEFIT SHOW
Please read, donate, and share: The wake of Hurricane Ida has left New Orleans musicians out of work for the near future, with many temporarily relocating to other cities to search for gigs, and many others stuck in the city trying to make ends meet. From now until Sept 17th, both Mama Digdown's Brass Band and Youngblood will be donating all proceeds from Bandcamp sales directly to the New Orleans musicians/bands affected, whether you choose to spend $1 or $100 (i.e. consider purchasing a single digital track but paying whatever amount you can donate). Also, if you're a musician or band in the city and want to make sure you're on our donation list, please message us. Donate/purchase here: youngbloodbrassbandofficial.bandcamp.com and digdown.bandcamp.com
Sadly, we also recently learned of the passing of Bennie Pete, co-founder of Hot 8 Brass Band, who succumbed to Covid. Bennie was a true friend to the band, a musical legend, and a hugely loving, generous spirit. We have too many wonderful memories with Bennie to list, and our hearts go out to his family and friends in the city. He will be remembered and missed the world over (there's a wonderful write-up in Offbeat here: https://bit.ly/3tiP1VH). Please, friends, get vaccinated.
Lastly, if you are local to Madison, a few of us will be playing an Ida Musician Relief benefit show with Mama Digdown's on Fri Sept 17th at Robinia Courtyard (outside), from 8pm-10pm (it's an early one). $15 suggested donation at the door, and all proceeds as well as merch sales that night will also go to the Ida relief fund. Mark your calendars, it's coming right up, and we'll post a Fbook event link soon as well. This event requires proof of vaccination/masking.
