Convergence XXII New Orleans Convergence XXII, New Orleans, Louisiana, March 25-27 2016 Convergence is North America's annual net.goth gathering and music festival.

Conceived on usenet on alt.gothic and born in Chicago in 1994, It has had its glory days, its wild excesses, its difficult formative years and an endless succession of identities. This year it is named for - and the costumed ball on Sunday night is themed for - the man who lead all freaks into the spotlight and showed the world that even the strangest among us could capture and break its heart.

Also, those of you taking the streetcar to tea tomorrow: Be sure to take a St. Charles rather than a Canal St. streetcar. St. Charles Ave. is across Canal St. from Royal, one block towards the river from the hotel. Look for a narrow, vertical yellow sign on a pole telling you that it's a stop. The ride to Oak Street takes about 45 minutes, sometimes more if the car is busy, so you'll want to get on board at about noon.

Some Convergence XXII announcements:

First, you have only until Wednesday, March 2 to take advantage of our group rate of $149/night at the Crowne Plaza. The link for our block should be: https://aws.passkey.com/event/14257944/owner/10756/landing;jsessionid=ED7A522A2CE2123DE3FE9F8915A67433 but for some reason it LIES and currently says the block is closed to new reservations, so call the hotel directly at (877)408-9661.

Second, DJs and a closer-to-finalized version of the schedule have been posted on the web site. We decided not to book further bands based on the economics of throwing a Convergence these days. There'll be a time in about a month to talk more about that.

Third, tea party ticket sales will only be available until March 11. Clean cup, move down.

Fourth, if you have things you'd like us to put in swag bags, send them to Convergence XXII c/o Zotz Cafe, 8210 Oak St., New Orleans, LA 70118.

DJ confirmation emails have been sent, so if you're one of those who haven't yet responded, please check your inbox. Updating the web site will have to wait until Wednesday - tomorrow is Mardi Gras. However, those who've so far been confirmed to DJ are: Batty von Bats (Death Disco and Darkness Forever: Toronto), Carrie Monster (Chicago and many Convergences), Axis (Tulsa's long running Assimilation, currently Resurextion, and many other nights and events); Edminster (Austin, many residencies over the years at Elysium); Heaven Malone (Chicago's Bowie Ball, Chicago Su***de Club, Philadephia's Dracula Ball and many other events); Nephri (Austin and, before that, New Orleans); LostTwistedSoul (Baton Rouge and New Orleans); and, not least, Voodoo (WGT, WGW, Dracula's Ball, 7 previous Convergences and currently his Glam Punk and metal weekly, Burn, in Seattle).

Several CXXII announcements:

1) The C22 rate at the hotel ($149 night for a queen/double room and so on) is only good until February 23. So, get your rooms before then. I'm told that our block is currently out of space on Thursday and Sunday nights, so I'll speak with the hotel about adding more rooms on those nights. It's Mardi Gras weekend, though, so I don't expect to be able to do that until at least Wednesday.

2) The Tomb of Nick Cage will be kicking off the musical performance on Saturday night with a set of death rock/goth/punk live band karaoke. So, if you want to sing and you have a request in mind, please email us about it at [email protected]. We'll forward it to the band (within reason. You're not Rickrolling anyone).
