Ricky just dropped it.. pick it up!

Discover the story behind the lyrics of one of New Orleans' most iconic bounce songs, "Shake For Ya Hood." Written by Ricky Bickham, this book delves into the culture, struggles, and resilience of New Orleans through the lens of a song that has stood the test of time since its 1994 release.

Ricky Bickham, a native of New Orleans, shares his personal journey growing up in the vibrant yet challenging environment of the city. Using his hit song, "Shake For Ya Hood," he offers a line-by-line breakdown of the lyrics, revealing the deeper meanings and stories that inspired them. This book is a blend of poetry, art, and raw storytelling that provides an intimate look into the soul of New Orleans.

Bickham's narrative doesn't just stop at the music. He explores the profound changes in the city, especially after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The housing projects mentioned in his song have been replaced by new buildings with unfamiliar names, but the essence of the neighborhoods remains in the hearts of the locals. The "ward" culture, a unique aspect of New Orleans' identity, continues to evolve, bringing both rivalry and unity among its residents.

Despite the enduring issues of drugs, violence, and poverty, the spirit of New Orleans shines through. The city's resilience and welcoming nature offer a stark contrast to its challenges, making it a place where the culture is both celebrated and scrutinized. Bickham also reflects on how New Orleanians have spread their music and traditions across the country post-Katrina, influencing new communities and showcasing the indomitable spirit of their homeland.

"Shake For Your Muthafkn Hood If It’s All Good" is more than just a book about a song; it's a testament to the enduring power of music, culture, and the human spirit in the face of adversity. Join Ricky Bickham as he takes you on a journey through the heart of New Orleans, where every line of his song tells a story of survival, hope, and the quest for meaning.
