Freeform: not conforming to a regular/formal structure or shape.
FREE-FORM, honors the non-conforming dreadlock hairstyle, and is a metaphor for Alleyne’s intuitive, experimental silkscreen process. Alleyne explores the dichotomy of life as immigrant and American citizen, concerning how we construct spaces of refuge, resistance, and self-definition. John Stephen Edmund Alleyne 🇧🇧

📡Join us on June 25th from 6-8pm for Antenna’s monthly Land & Labor Practice in collaboration with . This month we are screening “Seeds,” a film by Brittany Shyne.  

📡ABOUT THE EVENT: “Seeds” is a portrait of Black generational farmers in the South, exploring their joys, struggles, and the significance of owning their own land. Using lyrical black and white imagery, this meditative film unveils the challenges and values of land and legacy. 📡 Join artist John Alleyne and guest speakers for a special Juneteenth community program at Antenna 3718 Saint Claude ave. 1pm to 4 pm. Advance registration is encouraged.

Presented in conjunction with FREEFORM, a solo exhibition by John Alleyned, loc-care demonstrations, free consultations, music, light refreshments, and more. Inspired by the themes of the exhibition, FREEFORM: Juneteenth Community Care Day brings together art, hair culture, education, and community care. Through conversation, demonstrations, and free consultations, the event celebrates Black hair traditions as spaces of creativity, self-definition, resilience, and cultural knowledge. Visitors are invited to engage with the exhibition while learning directly from local haircare professionals about grooming practices, loc maintenance, entrepreneurship, and the cultural significance of Black hair traditions.

📡This special program features: Jalisa “Ling Stylez” — a Louisiana-licensed cosmetologist specializing in healthy haircare, loc maintenance, styling, and education.
Landan G. — a self taught, New Orleans-based barber known for his precision cuts, grooming expertise, and commitment to helping clients look and feel their best.

📡 Attendance is limited to the first 20 registered participants to ensure an intimate, hands-on experience and meaningful engagement with the presenters. Whether you’re looking to relax, meet new friends, or just enjoy the good vibes, this day is for you! This event is free and open to the public. Advance registration is encouraged.

Antenna says goodbye to our Admin Assistant, Magdalena Saliba. Magdalena says this as she leaves us:
“I’m so grateful for my time at Antenna. I’ve learned so much about the power of art, community engagement, and just how special New Orleans truly is! I’ll be attending the School of the Art Institute for a Masters in Art Education in the fall, and I hope to be back in New Orleans very soon!”
