⚜️ “Genius” is the first word that comes to mind when one thinks of Ice Mike. He’s a legend – as they say in New Orleans, “Yes indeed.” And he's a legend we invite you to help celebrate either by attending the January 7th show in-person or via Pay-Per-View. Remember the first time you heard a Bust Down song? Mind blowing lyrics laced over unbelievable beats. You may also remember the first time you were in a club when Joe Blakk came on – pure mayhem, in a good kind of way. The dance floor would immediately explode with action. Ice Mike was responsible for much of that. 🪄

New Orleans and Down South rap music pioneer, businessman, producer, DJ, rapper, mentor – all of these are words describe Ice Mike, but one definitely needs to put the word “Genius” in front of any of those in order to accurately describe him.

Ice Mike is the man behind countless hits. There aren’t many artists in the rap game that you can name, that Ice Mike hasn’t helped put on the map – especially not those from New Orleans or Houston. He has a unique sound that has always branded the artists who with whom he works. Ice Mike’s a real cat who strives to help artists get what they truly deserve. The independent movement owes a lot to Ice Mike and he continues on that mission nearly 3 decades later.

Robert " Bobby" Caillier is perhaps one of the moat well-respected club owners, promoters and DJs. Having gotten his start in the entertainment business in his late teens, Bobby has bern associated with some of the most popular nightcluba in SW Louisiana.

Bobby Caillier first entered the industry as a DJ at the Triangle Club, Amp, and Nitetown USA. During his career, he owned over 20 clubs, including the world famous clubs, The Kingfish.and Strawberries, among others.

Bobby Caillier's heavy Hip Hop influence helped to solidify the careers of Master P, Boosie, Scarface, and others. 💿 There are culture bearers and then there are CULTURE BEARERS. DJ Troy D is a true, real-life
CULTURE BEARER.

🪄 A native of New Iberia, Louisiana with fans spanning the country, Troy D began to make a real name for himself in the mid-1980's in Southwest Louisiana, particularly when he became the most sought after DJ for USL's officials events. Not so long after that, the radio stations knew they had to have this gem in their studios for prime time broadcasts. And Troy D's career grew from there.

⚜️ Artists and producers from Houston to New Orleans and beyond owe a ton of gratitude to Troy D for literally being a record breaker. Troy introduced the world to UGK, PNC, Tela, and just about any other ultra hot act you can name. The late 80's, 90's and beyond were an incredible time for urban music, particularly rap. Troy D can take his place among the superstar DJs known for spinning the dopest records and ultimately, for creating a whole new culture. The Art of DJ'ing is incredible in and of itself. And Troy D is certainly one of the greats.

💫 Fast forward to 2022 and this legendary DJ is introducing his art to a whole new generation. He has added the ever-growing Zydeco genre to his menu of offerings. Let's just say, if "Booked and Busy" were a person, that would be DJ Troy D. Join us in honoring him for his tireless work. It is an honor that's been a long time coming!

New Orleans is known as ground zero for pioneering music artists/entertainers. The culture-rich city is like no other on the face of this Earth. It is unique and has birthed entertainers who can never be duplicated.

KATEY RED is most definitely a pioneer who helped to lay a foundation of a sub-genre that is quickly becoming one of the fastest growing in the world. +

Bounce music exploded on the scene decades ago, but is now heard in some of the world's major artists' music - even from creators such as Drake. Now that's about as big as it gets, so let that sink in. The beautiful Katey Red, a creative known for her gorgeous looks, beautiful hairstyles and makeup, and ornate outfits, helped catapult bounce music into modern day major music.

Katey Red was also a pioneer in another way as well. In 2022, transgendered women are becoming widely accepted and even lauded in contemporary entertainment. But when Katey Red began her career, things were very different. Despite society's beliefs at that time, she remained true to herself, becoming a role model for many.

Katey Red's music was groundbreaking, with her edgy lyrics. Suffice it to say, she has been a powerful influence. In a New York Times article from the year 2000, producer Mankind was quoted as saying, "A lot of things wouldn't be going on in this town without her. She's hot right now.'' She can always get a crowd jumping and was one of the first bounce artists to rock a crowd in such a way. She is the epitome of a trailblazer, being one of the first openly homosexual rap and bounce artists.

JANUARY 7, 2023 TIM SMOOTH WILL BE ONE OF THE TRIBUTE HONOREES AT THE 2023 LEGENDS OF NOLA HIP HOP EVENT AT

Born Timothy Smoot – and known as “the Knight from Kennedy Heights” - the rapper was considered a pioneer of New Orleans hip-hop. He established his reputation as an MC while still a teenager; he recalled sneaking out of L.W. Higgins High School in Marrero at lunchtime to battle other rappers on their school’s playgrounds. In 1991, he released his first single, “I Gotsta Have It,” for Dallas-based Yo! Records, also putting out albums on Houston’s Rap-A-Lot label and the local indies Big Boy and Mobo. Tim Smooth was one of the most talented lyricists/rappers EVER. Hands down! reveres him as one of the most intelligent men he ever met, not to mention creative and talented.

At Big Boy Records, he met and mentored Mystikal. During a respite from his illness, Smooth made an appearance on the mic with his old friend during a House of Blues concert in 2010.

"Had I never met Tim, I would be a totally different artist," told the Times-Picayune music writer. "He even co-wrote the title cut with me on 'Mind of Mystikal.' Thanks for the memories."

Having stood at the helm of the fight for Civil Rights, Congressman John Lewis was one of the bravest, most courageous of American leaders from the “Big Six”. His unwavering and relentless heroism will never be omitted from U. S. history. Roll Call Magazine recognized the late Congressman Lewis as, “…one of the most courageous persons the Civil Rights Movement ever produced.” That description is probably the single most accurate and indubitable portraiture of one of the greatest leaders of our time.

Congressman Lewis was born in Alabama in 1940, in the segregated and often brutal Jim Crow South. Raised by sharecroppers, Congressman Lewis’ humble family background inspired him to perform great and courageous feats of valor that included sit-ins, joining the Freedom Rides and many other anti-segregration protests. He risked his life on countless occasions, even having been severely beaten within a literal inch of his life. By the age of 27, Congressman Lewis had become a nationally recognized Civil Rights leader. Despite being arrested more than 40 times and surviving numerous instances of physical harm, he remained one of the most solid and well-respected figures in American history, until his recent passing.

A true and tried example of greatness, we owe much to the legacy of Congressman John Lewis. Simien and Miniex, APLC salutes this brave soul. We send our thoughts and prayers to those whose lives he touched during his lifetime.
