Cha Wa would not exist without the groundbreaking music and mentoring of Big Chief Monk Boudreaux
As a founding member of the Wild Magnolias band with Big Chief Bo Dollis, they changed music forever by inventing the style of music know as Mardi Gras Indian Funk in the late 1960’s. We owe them all the love and respect in the world. Shout out to 60 Minutes for showing the love and admiration to Big Chief Monk of the Golden Eagles, he deserves every bit of it.
Monk preached grace and wisdom from his front porch on Mardi Gras Day with his messages and astonishing rendition of “My Indian Red”, there wasn’t a dry eye in his front yard. He remains the greatest stewards of Mardi Gras Indian music and culture. We love you Big Chief and wish you health and happiness going forward for many a Mardi Gras to come! 🦅💜💚💛

It’s Super Sunday in New Orleans! The annual gathering of Mardi Gras Indian tribes showcases their colorful, hand-made suits as they dance, sing, and honor their heritage. This video footage from HNOC’s collections captures the Super Sunday processions in 1976, featuring Mardi Gras Indians from several tribes, including the Black Eagles.

Don’t miss the Super Sunday celebrations this afternoon. See more information from

This weekend, join us at the Civic Theatre for Hell N Back Festival brought to you by the incredible Helen Wilson, with amazing bands Cha Wa, The Psycho Realm, Tortuous, and a surprise NYC hardcore headliner. Tickets are free, and all donations go to the Nick Alexander Music Trust, a non-profit which was founded by the Alexander family to raise money for small charities in the UK to help underprivileged and special needs children learn how to play music.

Ten years ago on November 13, 2015 Helen survived the Paris terror attack at the Bataclan. She was with Nick Alexander, who was the merch manager for the band and who passed away in her arms. She has decided to create this festival for her 60th celebration of life and the 10 year anniversary of the Paris attacks, by bringing in people and bands from all around the world to join in this celebration and raise money for this very worthy cause.

Head to our website to RSVP now!
