My first time at the American Film Market was a positive experience! I’m grateful for the connections I made and felt confident in my 30-second elevator pitch and a more thorough pitch when applicable. The main goal at AFM of continuing the conversation about Secrets on Bonnabel, a YA, Hispanic-led, Thriller was met with enthusiasm and solid advice moving forward.
Takeaways include practicing my Pitch! One of the most valuable sessions was attending the Pitch Practice where filmmakers spoke to an experienced panel of moderators and received instant feedback. What struck me as a perfect pitch, oftentimes had tiny details that were missing. I took notes that will strengthen my pitch moving forward.
Secrets on Bonnabel is still in development with the goal of closing my private equity by the end of February 2025 with principal photography starting May 2025.
Thank you to my mentor, Sara Elizabeth Timmins, who prepped me prior to attending the market. ALL of her advice was en pointe! And much gratitude to my colleague, Anna Watt who literally opened every Hispanic door at the market. A huge win for us was having a meeting in the Greene Street Lounge with a buyer from NYC whose films were more in the $20 Million range. He was kind, very generous with his time, and even though he was not interested in my project, I felt at ease in my conversation.
I also enjoyed sharing (when I could) my unique & spectacular career as a retired professional dancer and my special ties to Las Vegas, including my graduation from UNLV. Go Rebels!
Las Vegas, you never disappoint! I left with a renewed sense of a path forward, confident in my abilities as an experienced business leader and creative, and more determined than ever to bring my dreams into fruition!
