OPPRC is a small grassroots organization that does SO MUCH to end mass incarceration in New Orleans.

Thanks to their work, the number of people caged in Orleans Parish Prison is at an all-time low: from ~6,500 people in the jail to ~778 now. But there’s still more work to do. I’m doing a fundraiser to raise $ for OPPRC for tomorrow... will you support ending mass incarceration by making a donation? 🖤 Any support helps!

another week of , every sunday until y’all get tired of it i guess? lol. this week’s subject is the experimentation on the primarily Black prison population at holmesburg prison in philadelphia. we are all aware of the links between slavery and the modern day prison system (and if not 13th on netflix is a great place to start), and it’s important that we interrogate and understand the history of how Black people in prison, who are given longer/unfair sentences and incarcerated at a higher rate than literally every. other. racial. or. ethnic. category. are then manipulated and/or forced into being guinea pigs for a racist “justice” system that puts their lives and wellbeing at risk. @ Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

For years, jail-reform advocates and bail bondsmen have argued over whether making defendants post bail while awaiting trial keeps New Orleans safer.

UPDATE: Yoel was deported to Cuba this AM. We don't have info on his health, but he was able to call his wife Midalis.

We’re heartbroken that he will have to battle cancer away from his wife and children & we’re furious that he's trapped in a country where he fears for his life.

We will not let ICE get away with deporting the evidence of their crimes. This rogue agency must be held to account and we need Congress’ help.

Sign this petition demanding Congress hold hearings on ICE’s brazen behavior in cases like Yoel’s: https://secure.everyaction.com/MXfGQpkY1EO89-Rsp_w9Hw2

ICE is deliberately detaining immigrants in remote areas, making it extremely difficult to receive the health & legal attention needed in these rural concentration camps. “Through her brand & her passions, Chloe ( ) demands reform, calling us to action w/ each item sewn & seen. The inspiration for her brand name comes from the famously poignant Langston Hughes poem, “Harlem.” By rebelling w/ historical untruths that ‘fester like sores’ & ‘stink like rotten meat,’ she creates messages not easily forgotten, plants seeds in her consumers’ minds, & waits for them to explode.” — Words for Blindfold Magazine 🙌🏽

I don’t normally feel comfortable speaking as the “face of” or designer behind ODIE, because the change-makers are you all wearing the pieces & spreading truth, but speaking w/ Blindfold was a such a positive first experience that taught me to open up🌹
