Today is GiveNOLA Day, the city’s largest day of support for local nonprofits. I founded the Tchoupitoulas Art Corridor, a 501(c)(3) transforming the Mississippi River floodwall into a living one mile long canvas that reflects the soul, history, and rhythm of New Orleans.

This is more than a mural. It’s a space where culture is preserved, stories are honored, and the next generation can see themselves in the city’s future.

If New Orleans has ever meant something to you, this is a chance to be part of history in the making, whether by giving or simply sharing.

I appreciate you taking a moment to be part of this.

Be part of something New Orleans will remember!

Before jazz.
Before brass bands filled the streets.
Before Carnival parades rolled through neighborhoods.
New Orleans in the 1800s was already one of the most important musical cities in America.
Free people of color were formally trained in European classical traditions. They composed. They performed. They traveled the world carrying the sound of this city with them.
Edmond Dédé (1827–1903) was one of them.
Standing in front of the Dédé mural along the Tchoupitoulas floodwall, we were honored to film with our longtime friend and supporter Givonna Joseph of OperaCréole. Her work continues the lineage of Black operatic excellence that began right here in New Orleans.
This is not new history.
It is foundational history.

The mural is paint.

The legacy is still alive.

Growing up in New Orleans is a gift, where music drifts through the streets and culture shapes you from the inside out. We are blessed to have experienced that magic as children, and to now see it reflected on the Tchoupitoulas flood wall mural, a living tribute to the stories that raised us.
