Hey Ya'll Art Talk is now happening every Thursday at 1 p.m. Join us in the galleries for a participatory tour exploring current exhibitions and favorite works on view.

Meet at the visitor services desk for a guided tour of the largest and most comprehensive collection of art from the Southern region of the United States.

Thread becomes a vessel for memory, culture and lived experience in Antonia Zennaro's “LE NU QUEM- ,” a collaboration with Maya artisan women from Santa Clara Atitlán, Sololá, Guatemala.

Through embroidery, each woman shares elements of her culture, daily life and surroundings, creating colorful narratives that reflect her experience. Masters of thread, they use embroidery to communicate, create and earn a living alongside demanding fieldwork.

These women are among the last pillars of cultural continuity in a village where nearly 50 percent of the population has migrated to the United States without documentation over the last decade. Each piece is unique, offering a glimpse into Maya wisdom, resilience and ways of life.

You can view “LE NU QUEM- ” in “Louisiana Contemporary," presented by The Helis Foundation, now through February 14, 2027.

Last chance to experience “I Am the Face!”

Closing this Sunday, August 30, the exhibition traces the history of portraiture within Southern photography, from the early twentieth century to the present. Drawn exclusively from the Ogden Museum Collection, “I Am the Face” explores changing ideas, methods and technologies behind the photographic portrait, as well as the relationship between photographer and subject and the camera’s power of perception.

Join us Thursday, September 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. for Culture & Cocktails featuring Director of Exhibitions Amy Newell in conversation with the four winning artists of “Louisiana Contemporary,” presented by The Helis Foundation: Nathalia Toledo Barcia, Pamela Skehan, Owen Canter and Farah Billah.

Begin the evening with a complimentary beverage and an exclusive after-hours viewing of the exhibition. Following the tour, each artist will discuss their work and how the region continues to inspire their practice.

Featured in “The Dream is the Truth” is Clementine Hunter’s “Chaleur: The Sun Gives Life to Everything,” a rare abstract painting by the artist and one of two in Ogden Museum’s Permanent Collection.

Between 1962 and 1963, Hunter experimented with abstraction, briefly moving away from the depictions of everyday life and religious imagery that dominate much of her work. In this composition, vibrant color and form illustrate the life-giving power of the sun, with golden rays cascading across a flowering tree, blooming flowers and other abstracted forms.

Hunter spent her life in the rural Cane River region of Louisiana, where daily existence was deeply attuned to the changing seasons and cycles of the land.

See “Chaleur: The Sun Gives Life to Everything” in the exhibition “The Dream is the Truth,” and join us tomorrow, Thursday, August 20, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for a special celebration of the exhibition in the galleries at Ogden Museum.

Calling all Southern ceramicists! The call for entries to the juried exhibition "Art of the Cup" is open now through September 16!⁣

This year’s juror is New Orleans-based interdisciplinary artist, curator and educator Ina Kaur. Originally from New Delhi, India, Kaur’s practice explores materiality, memory, labor, identity and community engagement through clay, printmaking and mixed media.

Kaur’s work has been exhibited throughout North America and India and is represented in public and private collections.

In addition to her studio practice, she is engaged in collaborative and community-centered initiatives that bridge contemporary art, craft and social practice. She currently serves as Curator of Creative Practice at the Newcomb Art Museum.

Kaur holds an MFA from Tulane University and Purdue University and a BFA from Chandigarh College of Art.
