Yesterday I headed back into the French Quarter with a different way of seeing the city. Instead of chasing the obvious, I slowed down and let the details tell the story.

This walk was shot with my Sony A7RV paired with a 50mm tilt-shift lens; one of the most creative pieces of glass I've used. Unlike a standard lens, a tilt-shift lets you change the plane of focus instead of simply focusing front to back. By tilting the lens, you can create an incredibly narrow slice of sharpness while the rest of the scene falls into a soft, dreamlike blur. The result isn't just a "miniature effect" people often associate with tilt-shift lenses, it's a way to guide your eye exactly where the story lives.

One moment was the Steamboat Natchez pushing away beneath heavy storm clouds, where the selective focus gave the scene an almost cinematic scale. Another was a quiet, moody portrait of a decoration through an old French Quarter window, where the narrow plane of focus transformed a simple composition into something that felt eerie, mysterious and painterly.

That's what I love most about photography.... sometimes changing the way the lens sees the world, changes the way you see it, too.

Some walks aren't about getting somewhere...they're about discovering what was always there.

This photo walk with Eugene Bellau Photography started on Magazine Street and slowly carried me into the CBD, letting the city reveal itself one block at a time. The places most people pass without a second glance have stories hidden in their textures, weathered signs, aging brick, and dramatic skies.

I've always been drawn to the side of New Orleans that feels timeless; the places where light, architecture, and atmosphere come together to create something cinematic. That's the kind of art I'm chasing now. Not just documenting the city but capturing the mood it leaves behind.

Every walk reminds me that there's still so much to see... even on streets I've walked a hundred times.

One of my last client sessions before stepping back into creating art.

This was an evening at Fontainebleau State Park that reminded me why I fell in love with photography in the first place. The sunset painted the sky, the lake stood still, and for a few quiet moments everything just came together naturally. No rush. No pressure. Just light, emotion, and a story unfolding in front of the lens. I used my love of the art to blend it into this client session. The horizon did the rest!

I'm incredibly grateful for every couple, family, and client who trusted me over the years. You allowed me to create images like this and helped shape the photographer I am today.

And if this session is any indication, I think it's the perfect way to close one chapter and begin the next.

Another frame from the same photo walk, but this one reminded me that landscapes don't always have to be mountains or forests. Sometimes they're abandoned warehouses, puddles after the rain, dramatic skies, and walls layered with decades of stories.

I found myself drawn to the reflections, the textures, and the mood more than any single subject. The storm clouds, graffiti, and industrial lines all came together to create a scene that felt uniquely New Orleans; gritty, imperfect, and full of character.

One of the things I enjoy most about walking with a camera is letting the city reveal compositions I never planned. It's a reminder that compelling images are often waiting in the places most people drive right past.

Spent some time wandering Decatur Street one evening in the French Quarter with my good friend Eugene Bellau Photography, slowing down enough to really appreciate the artwork that often gets passed by. There's something fascinating about the macabre murals and weathered walls, they're unsettling, expressive, and full of texture and emotion.

What I love most about street photography is finding beauty in places that aren't traditionally beautiful. The cracks, shadows, peeling paint, and haunting imagery all become part of the story. Sometimes the city whispers instead of shouts...you just have to stop long enough to listen.

This was one of those walks that reminded me why I've been getting back to creating art for myself. The French Quarter never runs out of stories to tell.

My photography has never been about simply documenting what I see...it's about creating a feeling. I chase atmosphere, contrast, texture, and emotion. the combination of storm clouds, reflections, deep shadows, and bold color pops all become part of the story. I want my images to feel cinematic with soul, where familiar places become something almost surreal. If someone pauses a little longer to study one of my photographs, then I've created more than a picture, I've created art.
