Start small. Go big. Working on a personal piece to see just how patient and methodical I can be. I'm fascinated about how far human skill and focus can reach. We'll see what happens!

Planning the next round of portraits for these two, now that they're older. The idea is to catch them at the same moments in time in their individual lives as they grow. A pioneer in medicine who introduced fiberoptic bronchoscopy to the U.S. in 1970, Dr. Donald C. Zavala cherished his roots in the Basque region of Spain. His family had come to the U.S. through Mexico, and on his 96th birthday, he reveled in wearing this sombrero at his favorite restaurant. His family granted me the privilege to honor him with this portrait, one of my favorites so far. www.richrainey.com

Loved bringing Rocky back into the world. From all the stories I've heard, he was an amazing dog. I couldn't get over the regal posing. He obviously knew when to be on point!
