This necklace is versatile in that the individual parts can be removed/added and rearranged in a variety of ways. I have made a few necklaces like this before but have never completely developed this idea. This is a simple concept that I want to continue experimenting with. The shape of each part was inspired by the ginkgo leaf which was originally formed in soft wax then cast in silver. The Kyanite stones along with the blue patina create a monochromatic tone of this necklace.

This pendant was inspired by a plant form that I found in nature. Not sure of it origin but I felt that it was once part of a flower’s center or was some kind of a pod. I used roll mill embossing to create the texture on the individual sections of this three dimensional form. Soldering and folding were the predominant techniques I used to construct this piece.

I am so very fortunate to once again be part of a group show at Sullivan Gallery. I hope you will join me for the opening reception Saturday, December 6th where I will be showing my latest silver jewelry. Also featured at the gallery are the paintings of Stephanie Reed , the photographs of Owen Murphy, George Burke’s photo graphics and Maria Yuste’s water colors.

I am in the process of displaying my jewelry at Sullivan Gallery for the upcoming exhibition which opens Wednesday with a reception on Saturday, December 6th from 5 to 8.

The 3 pieces I am posting here are distinctively different but with the common factor of a focus on texture, a design element that I continuously experiment with and use. The variety of techniques used to create the textures are reticulation, lost wax casting, casting of twigs and roll mill embossing.

I am looking forward to showing my latest work at Sullivan Gallery which will remain up through the end of January. Sure hope to see you there.

The major design feature in this “Ornamental “pendant/necklace is the spiral which I often use in various ways in my jewelry. Here the spiral’s uniformity of size, shape and direction produces a feeling of motion and spinning. Placed in the center is a sun shape in which the spirals revolve. This piece is fabricated using soldering techniques then formed slightly creating a shallow domed shape of the entire pendant. Added is a light and pale gold patina along with a simple linear chain that I made specifically for this pendant.

I am excited to soon display my new Jewelry at Sullivan Gallery, located at 3827 Magazine Street. The upcoming exhibition will have an opening reception on Saturday December 6thfrom 5-8 pm.

The design of this pendant evolved around the green garnet druzy also known as uvarovite. I was drawn to this stone because of its vivid luminous color, and I wanted to use it as the central focus of this piece. The multiple leaf shapes were soldered individually creating a textural form expanding from either side of the garnet. There are several moving parts that hang from the stone that are sparsely embellished with leaf shapes along with a single opal. I designed the linear bar type chain simply to contrast the complexity of the pendant.

My new jewelry will be part of an exhibition along with 3 other New Orleans Artist at Sullivan Gallery, located at 3827 Magazine Street.

The opening reception will be held on Saturday, December 6th from 5 to 8pm. I hope to see you there.

The overall shape of this pendant is loosely based on the diamond, only it is elongated with a very slight concave curve on each side. This one is another addition to what I call my “Ornamental Style”. This piece was predominately fabricated using various soldering techniques. The symmetrical design elements along with the three dimensional flower form creates a calm and still feeling of this piece. The blue patina looks like night to me so the center focus had to be a moonstone.

This necklace was fabricated using individual twigs that were cast in silver. As in previous pieces of this type the twigs usually dictate the design with their texture, linear direction and primitive quality which naturally lend to the look of the piece of jewelry. The approach of designing this way is looser, more spontaneous and collage like than the way I typically work. It is a welcomed change and I hope to continue and explore this way of designing. In conjunction with the rustic appearance of the twigs I have added textured/embossed leaf and a flower shapes. The stone in the flower is a faceted amethyst.
