The pretty tables don’t just happen. There’s a whole side of wedding venue ownership and event planning that guests—and sometimes even our couples—never see. Folding napkins. Setting tables. Straightening chairs. Placing décor. Checking the tiny details. Then checking them again. No, the napkins don’t come pre-folded. They definitely don’t fold themselves. And apparently AI hasn’t taken over this job yet. It may seem like a small detail, but those small details are what bring the entire room together. As venue owners, wedding planners and coordinators, so much of what we do happens quietly behind the scenes. The goal is that when you walk into your wedding or event, everything simply feels ready. You don't have to think about how it got that way. We do.

Here’s some wedding math nobody talks about. If you have a 200-person wedding and spend just ONE minute with each guest, that’s over 3 HOURS of your wedding day. And realistically? Most couples with a guest list that size aren’t getting even one meaningful minute with every person who came to celebrate them. That’s one of the biggest differences I see between a traditional wedding and a micro wedding. With 50–70 guests, you actually have time. Time to sit down and have a conversation. Time to laugh with your friends. Time to hug your aunt without immediately being pulled somewhere else. Time to actually enjoy the people who gave up their day to celebrate yours. I see it at our venue all the time. Micro wedding couples aren’t just surrounded by the people they love — they actually get to spend their wedding day WITH them. A smaller guest list doesn’t necessarily mean a smaller celebration. Sometimes it means you actually get to experience more of it.

**WE’RE GROWING OUR EVENT TEAM**

1860 Schulhaus in New Melle is looking for **bartenders & event staff (21+).**

Bartending experience is **not required** — we’re happy to train! Serving, hospitality, or customer-facing experience is a big plus.

We’re looking for people who are:

• Friendly and great with people

• Quick on their feet and able to shift gears when things get busy

• Comfortable being on their feet throughout a shift

• Willing to jump in wherever needed

• Dependable and genuinely take pride in doing a great job

We’re a small, family-owned venue with **high expectations and a true team mentality.** There’s no “that’s not my job” here. We work together throughout the event and at the end of the night — from serving guests and closing the bar to taking out trash, mopping floors and cleaning bathrooms. Everyone pitches in.

**The schedule:** Primarily evenings and weekends, but this is **not a guaranteed every-weekend position.** Event work is seasonal, with very busy and quieter times throughout the year. It’s perfect for someone looking to pick up extra shifts and earn additional income. We post our schedule well in advance so our team can plan accordingly.

Most importantly, **our guest experience comes first.** We can teach you how to bartend — what we’re really looking for is a great attitude, strong work ethic and someone who understands what it means to be part of a team.

At 1860 Schulhaus, our elopement package is designed to keep planning simple while still allowing couples to personalize their experience. Instead of coordinating multiple vendors and locations, everything you need for a meaningful ceremony is already thoughtfully in place.

Each package includes:
- A private 2-hour reservation of the venue
- Exclusive access to both indoor and outdoor spaces
- Choice of ceremony location (outdoor ceremony site or indoor historic space)
- Accommodation for up to 25 guests
- Time for portraits throughout the property
- Ch*****ne toast for the couple
- Cake for the couple

with Mads with our all inclusive package it’s even easier than it was before and even then we made it easy. But if you’re not close and need a real tip- hire a professional planner with great connections, get married during off peak season and once you make a decision, move on- stop second guessing everything!

POV: What people think venue owners do on their days off… 💰💰💰 Count all that wedding money, obviously. What we’re actually doing: Cleaning out storage rooms. Moving boxes. Finding things we forgot we owned. Asking each other, “WHY DO WE HAVE THIS?” And somehow making the bride and groom rooms look WORSE before they look better. Owning a wedding venue is 10% beautiful weddings and 90% doing jobs you definitely did not realize you were signing up for. But hey… somebody’s gotta clean out the storage room.

I am OBSESSED with this! Did I need it? No. Did I have a plan for it? No was it even in the budget? Also No.. but who’s going say it’s not worth every precious dollar?! We are always looking to expand our decor collection, whether it be standard or premium we definitely make sure it will be the best value for our couples.
