Last Sunday's Paella Party was a wonderful celebration of culture, community, and connection. From the artist talk and live performance to the incredible food, every moment reminded me of the power of bringing people together through the arts.

I'm deeply grateful to everyone who joined us, supported Expressiones, and helped make the day so special. It was especially encouraging to meet so many new people who are embracing our mission and becoming part of this growing community.

What an incredible Paella Party! We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us yesterday to celebrate, connect, and support the work of Expressiones.

Seeing so many familiar faces, along with so many new friends discovering and embracing our mission, was truly inspiring. Your presence, generosity, and enthusiasm help make it possible for us to continue bringing artists, creative programs, cultural exchanges, and meaningful opportunities to our community.

Expressiones is delighted to welcome our new AIR Ixel Orozco Peregrina, a multidisciplinary Mexican-American artist, designer, and maker whose practice bridges art, craftsmanship, design, ecology, and community engagement.

Based in Guadalajara, Mexico, Ixel holds a degree in Industrial Design and has pursued extensive training in paper making, bookbinding, glass casting, ceramic sculpture, traditional reed crafts, and sustainable construction with natural materials. Since 1999, she has worked through her independent studio, Objetos Pluriformes, creating unique objects, technical designs, and artistic projects that weave together industrial design and agroecological practices.

Her artistic work spans sculpture, installation, object art, puppetry, and large-scale performative vegetal sculptures. She is the co-creator and artistic co-director of Armadilla Animal, a celebrated series of monumental reed sculptures presented at major theater and street arts festivals in Mexico. Her work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including the Olga Costa Museum, the International Cervantino Festival, and contemporary art biennials where she has received recognition for her innovative sculptural practice.

We are honored to welcome Ixel to the Expressiones Artist-in-Residence program. Her creative vision, commitment to traditional knowledge, and exploration of the relationship between nature, craft, and contemporary art will bring new perspectives and inspiration to our community. We look forward to sharing her artistic journey and the projects she develops during her residency.

Every work of art begins with imagination. During our visit to the Mystic Museum of Art, campers explored the creativity of professional artists and then experienced the joy of creating their own art. At Expressiones, we are committed to providing opportunities that spark curiosity, strengthen self-confidence, and empower young people to see themselves as capable, creative individuals.

This summer, Expressiones had the pleasure of joining youth from the Drop-In Community Learning & Resource Center for an inspiring day at the Mystic Museum of Art. Beyond exploring the museum’s remarkable exhibitions, the young participants had the chance to step into the role of artists themselves through a hands-on painting activity. It was wonderful to see each child approach the creative process in their own unique way, transforming blank surfaces into colorful reflections of their imagination. Experiences like these remind us of the importance of creating opportunities for young people to engage with the arts, discover new perspectives, and build meaningful connections with the world around them. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Mystic Museum of Art for their generosity and hospitality, and to our valued partners at the Drop-In Community Learning & Resource Center for helping make these enriching cultural experiences accessible to New London youth.
