🎨Whoop whoop! Let's paint together!

🥳 For those of you following along at home, it's Mural Week! 🥳 I am working frantically on the prep and organization of the instructions and all that is needed to get you painting!

I hope to be ready by 9am tomorrow (8/28/2025) for a walk-up process that will run until 12noon. I will set up again on Friday (8/29) and Saturday (8/30) morning, 9am-12noon.

Things to know:
-Wear paint clothes or covers, water, SUNGLASSES and a hat!
-I'll have ladders and scaffolding, but kids are not allowed on any of them.
-No appts needed or taken; we'll paint together as there is room (FCFS).
-I like happy painters; let's be them.☺️
-We never know how long this will take, we will paint until we are done. I'll set up more paint days as we need them.

The Drawing Club tackled a tough one this week. It started with the classic cylinder form, then we drew a vintage seltzer bottle. Glass is always a challenge, but this group rose to it in style! So much success was achieved in the final images. We just had to have patience and keep working through the hard parts. Good stuff, this.

TX, IL, NJ, GA and NY drew with the folks in the garage. We discussed a wide range of topics - some that Jim didn't hear, which was probably best. 😉 You don't always need to be listening; join us sometime!

The Monday gang usually does a hard pass on primary or lemon yellow, but we all were beginners once, so we own plenty. Using it as an underpainting is a hearty way to use it up. We tried that process in our warmup for the Cecropia Moth, and the results were SO interesting! It's not often I can convince these folks that the little paintings they make are treasures, but give them some time. They'll come around to believing they make the good stuff.

CO, MO, IL, TX, GA, NY, southern MN and EdmontonBC joined the garage and we discussed all the important things: moth facts, when to read a book, historic milestones, county fairs*, Eider ducks and other fascinations. We are interesting--join us sometime!

* Our pal, Kari, is a Mower County Grand Champion in the painting category! We are so excited for her!

The Drawing Club began our study of classic forms with the cone, then took those principles into drawings of lobster bouys in water-soluble media. Sketching with a brush is a different start for us, but we are realizing the value of a washy base layer. We take many paths to the good stuff.

We had NJ, TX, GA, and for the first time, ME! It was nice to have someone in the mix who sees the subject at least once in a while. 😉 We were a studious bunch and worked more than talked. If you enjoy silence, occasionally we deliver! Join us sometime!

Our practice reminded us to start big and broad, then work slowly to the detail. It's surprising how well the simple ideas work. An art practice is a metaphor for life, now ain't that the good stuff?

Minnesota Monday was super special this week! We had a CA online friend join us IRL along her road trip to OH. She was searching for loons and finally found them here. When someone visits from a far distance, you call the paper - so we did! Shannon from the LAR joined us for the evening and painted along with us while she asked questions about our practice. There may have been more chatting than usual.

We were joined by another CA, CO, IL, NY, GA, AustinMN, and EdmontonBC. We had a great evening, and even the roses turned out pretty good! Join us sometime!

The Drawing Club gathered to explore depicting waves with water soluble media. Working wet and dry, layering, trying, practicing. There is the ongoing struggle of a too-bright palatte, but we forge ahead. We're getting at the good stuff.

KS was in the garage IRL for the last time this summer, heading for other geographic regions. We also had TX, IL, NJ, GA and a return visit from a basement in St. Louis. ☺️ We all agree that heat & humidity drive us underground. Weather dominated our chats, but we figured out the difference between typhoons and hurricanes, so it wasn't ALL complaining! Join us sometime.

🌿 The greenwater hellstrip is having a stellar season! There is a current star of this pollinator garden - the Compass Plant. It is inching up to 7ft tall, towering over all the others. Our friend, Laura, gave me some facts and I put them together to share with passersby. Take a wander and see just how many varieties of pollinator-supporting plants Becky and Maureen have been nurturing through these last several years. It's amazing!
