πŸ“Έ ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: PETER JACOBY

Meet Peter Jacoby at Tatewell Gallery this Friday!

Peter Jacoby's photography celebrates the quiet, beautiful, and sometimes unexpectedly humorous moments found in nature.

From birds in flight and peaceful landscapes to wildlife scenes that reveal the unexpected humor of the natural world, Jacoby's work is rooted in careful observation and attention to detail.

His photographs invite viewers to slow down and look a little closerβ€”to notice the grace, stillness, and small moments that can easily go unseen.

🎨 ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: SARA RAE

Meet Sara Rae at Blue Loon Bakery this Friday!

Working from her home studio in Sutton, New Hampshire, Sara Rae creates paintings inspired by still life, local flora, fauna, and the natural world.

A graduate of Plymouth State University with a BFA, Rae primarily works alla prima, capturing fleeting moments of changing light, color, and atmosphere. Her work explores the subtle movement and impermanence found in everyday lifeβ€”from a flower following the sun to a familiar landscape shifting with the light.

Rae's paintings have been featured in juried regional exhibitions, while her award-winning art quilts have been exhibited throughout the United States.

🎨 YOUR ART DOESN’T HAVE TO BE FINISHED TO BE SHARED.

Sometimes the most helpful feedback comes before a painting is finished.

That’s the idea behind Art CafΓ© 2.0β€”a welcoming monthly gathering where CFA Guild artists can bring something they’re working on, a finished piece, or even a painting they’re still trying to figure out.

Led by artist Alison Vernon, the group focuses on positive, thoughtful, and gentle feedback designed to help artists:

✨ See their work from a new perspective
🎨 Develop their skills
πŸ’‘ Find new ideas and inspiration
πŸ’¬ Talk openly about their creative process
🀝 Connect with other artists in the CFA community

No harsh critiques. No need to have all the answers.

Just bring your art, your questions, and an openness to conversation.

Ever look at a landscape and wonder, β€œHow would I even begin to paint all of that?” 🌲🎨

You don't have to paint everything you see.

In Beginner's Landscape in Gouache, artist and educator Chris Scott will introduce you to the fundamentals of landscape painting while helping you learn how to look, simplify, and translate what you see into a painting.

Gouache is a versatile, opaque, water-based paint that is especially wonderful for exploring landscape. In this welcoming beginner class, you'll learn how artists begin breaking a landscape down into the essential pieces that make it work:

🌿 Composition β€” finding a strong way into the landscape
πŸ“ Perspective β€” creating a sense of depth
◼️ Value β€” seeing the big patterns of light and dark
🎨 Color mixing β€” creating the colors you actually see
πŸ–ŒοΈ Observation β€” learning to focus on the big shapes before the details

You'll work step-by-step with Chris in a supportive environment designed for curiosity and experimentationβ€”not perfection.

Never painted before? That's okay.
New to gouache? Even better.

Chris believes everyone is creative and that making art is good for the soul. She has taught children and adults of all ages at art centers throughout New Hampshire and loves sharing what she has learned with her community.

Come curious, bring your enthusiasm, and give yourself permission to try something new. πŸ’™

What can you make a simple collection of objects become? 🎨

A successful still life isn't just about painting what's in front of you. It's about light, color, shape, atmosphere, and the choices you make as an artist.

Spend a full day exploring that process with professional artist and educator Peter Clive in Creating a Beautiful Acrylic Still Life Painting at the Center for the Arts.

Peter will begin the workshop with a painting demonstration, then work with students as they explore how to:

🎨 Mix color that makes objects feel real
πŸ’‘ Use light and shadow to create dimension and form
πŸ–ŒοΈ Develop expressive, intentional brushwork
πŸ–ΌοΈ Build a composition that feels dynamicβ€”not static
✨ Turn ordinary objects into an engaging painting

And you don't need years of experience to join in.

Peter has been a professional artist for 45 years, with a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, an MFA from Queens College, painting studies in Rome, and nearly a decade as faculty and Chair of the Painting Program at the New Hampshire Institute of Art. His work has been reviewed in The New York Times and Newsday and featured in American Artist Magazine.

Now, he's bringing that experience to the CFA classroom.

Come curious. Bring your paints. Spend the day painting. See where it takes you.
