Although the Emancipation Proclamation was signed Jan 1, 1863, It took until June 19, 1865 for Major General Gordon Granger to arrive in Galveston, TX to reach the end of his ride and officially announce the end of the Civil War. In 6 mo, the 13th amendment abolished slavery.

Congratulations to the Augustinian Scholars from the Class of 2026, who were announced at the Academic Awards Ceremony this past Tuesday! The Providence Catholic Augustinian Scholar distinction was created in 2020 to honor those outstanding students who have strived to push themselves academically over the past four years and earned the Top 10 grade point averages of the graduating class. These students are awarded with the Augustinian Scholar stole to wear over their gown at graduation.
