Dr. Quan T. Tran joins us as moderator for An Evening with Lhakpa Sherpa, this year’s 16th Annual Visionary Leadership Award!

A scholar, educator, poet, translator, and nature photographer, Dr. Tran is a Senior Lecturer in Yale University’s Ethnicity, Race, and Migration Program, where her work explores Asian diaspora studies, refugee studies, memory, and food.

On September 2, she will lead an intimate conversation with Lhakpa Sherpa, the record-breaking mountaineer who has summited Mt. Everest 10 times and whose remarkable story of resilience, determination, and empowerment is featured in Netflix’s "Mountain Queen: The Summits of Lhakpa Sherpa".

We’re keeping the celebration of Lhakpa Sherpa going! Join us and the Yale MacMillan Center South Asian Studies Council on Thursday, September 3 for a free screening of Mountain Queen: The Summits of Lhakpa Sherpa.

The Netflix documentary follows Lhakpa, the first Nepali woman to summit and descend Mount Everest, as she prepares to return to Everest once again. Now a single mother raising two daughters and working at a Connecticut Whole Foods, Lhakpa sets out on another climb with hopes of building a better life for her family.
