Jordan Buschur's list of recommendations comes via a Q&A interview about her work. Her paintings focus on collections of objects ranging from stacked books to interiors of drawers, all united by a system of value based on mystery, sentimentality, and a matriarchal connection.
_
"Each image is layered and layered with stories and feelings that I know and can name, along with narratives I will never know from the people whose collections I paint, added to the interpretations and associations of those viewing the painting," she said. "Pinpointing exactly where the meaning might live is impossible, so the line between ambiguity and clarity is always blurred."

Ink foraging, animal perception, and human cognition are themes explored in the texts selected by Skye Gilkerson for the Summer Reading List series today on the blog. David Abrams writes: "By acknowledging such links between the inner, psychological world and the perceptual terrain that surrounds us, we begin to turn inside-out, loosening the psyche from its confinement within a strictly human sphere, freeing sentience to return to the sensible world that contains us. Intelligence is no longer ours alone but is a property of the earth; we are in it, of it, immersed in its depths. And indeed each terrain, each bioregion, seems to have its own particular intelligence, its unique vernacular of soil and leaf and sky."

Today's list comes from Sarah Baker, a writer, editor, and producer. Baker has developed and overseen multiple media products including magazines, books, radio, and most recently a pilot for a podcast. She has been a book editor at Simon & Schuster and Viking/Penguin, a radio producer for various NPR shows, and editor in chief of Art New England magazine. Today, she is working on a memoir, freelance writing, and getting certified in Visual Thinking Strategies, an educational tool that uses art to build empathic communication, deepen connections, uncover biases, and foster cognitive and behavioral growth.
_
Her picks include three non-fiction selections: a memoir about Jeremy Denk's early piano lessons and teachers, reflections on the permanent collection at the Frick Museum, and a "guidebook to living a more grounded, balanced life where that drink at the end of the day is no longer essential."

Because of her training in undergrad as a printmaker, Hendrickson has an attachment to multiples and is constantly replicating and editioning her paintings. Her primary medium these days is watercolor (Winsor & Newton Payne's Gray) & salt (Morton's Coarse Kosher) on paper (Rives BFK). She posts images and time-lapses of her work with reflections and questions on Instagram as an example of Opera Divina, daily work as prayer. In this way, Julia combines her M.F.A. from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Print | Media & her MDiv from Fuller Theological Seminary. She is a Fujimura Fellow, and this means that she strives to be generative in acts of Culture Care. While waiting for paint to dry, Julia takes very long walks, documents flowers, & reads a fair amount.
