Saybrook College at Yale University Qui transtulit sustinet. (Trans.: Two courtyards, stone and grass: two courtyards kick your ass.)

Saybrook College is one of the 12 residential colleges at Yale University. It was founded in 1933 by partitioning the Memorial Quadrangle (built in 1917-1921) into two parts: Saybrook and Branford. Unlike many of Yale's residential colleges that are centered around one large courtyard, Saybrook has two courtyards—one stone and one grass. The college has the second highest student-to-land-area rati

o of any of the colleges (after Calhoun College). Saybrook College was one of the original Yale Residential Colleges. Its name comes from the original location of the university, Old Saybrook, Connecticut. - From Wikipedia

“With Moore’s portrait, I feel happiness, admiration, and pride. … The portrait not only reflects Yale’s campus today but also reveals Yale’s history,” said Tamakloe, a political science major from Ruston, Louisiana, noting that Bouchet’s story had once largely been forgotten. “I’m glad we could tell it.”

The portrait, of Yale alumnus Edward Bouchet 1874 B.A, was unveiled in a ceremony at Saybrook College on Oct. 9.

“During the closure, Yale Dining will offer several perks to Branford and Saybrook residents. For example, each respective college will hold a family meal every month of the 2020–21 academic year at either Yale on York or the Schwarzman Center. Additional benefits include preferred seating areas in the Schwarzman Center, three pop-up social events per month and one large program event each semester. Students on the 21- and 14-meal-per-week plans will receive additional dining points — 300 and 120, respectively — to be used at retail outlets as well as the Schwarzman Center. Continental breakfast will also be available Monday through Friday within either Branford or Saybrook.”

Saybrook is currently in the lead for a third consecutive win of the Tyng Cup. This award, founded in 1933, recognizes the residential college with the greatest number of points from intramural sports by the end of the academic year.“

“Over the years, students have ascribed a range of meanings to the strip, from nihilism and sex-positivity to college spirit and a chance to show off. ‘It represents man’s inability to grasp the modern complexities of life,’ a possibly inebriated junior told the Hartford Courant in 1994.”

30 Saybrugians collaborated throughout the day - grocery shopping, cooking, and doing dishes - in the first Saybrook Potluck, culminating with a delicious dinner in the Master's House featuring many dishes of special meaning to the students who made them.
