💡 How to Invest in Stories That Educate, Connect, and Inspire: The Human Side of Health...What if health observances could do more than raise awareness?

The Human Side of Health is a new virtual arts and health initiative that transforms important health topics into professionally produced 10-minute plays followed by community conversations.

Each production explores the human experiences behind issues such as recovery, mental health, chronic disease, caregiving, and community well-being.

By combining theatre, health education, and dialogue, the series creates opportunities for learning, empathy, connection, and engagement.

Designed specifically for a virtual environment, the plays unfold through telehealth appointments, support groups, family video calls, recovery meetings, and other forms of digital connection that reflect how people experience care today.

We believe that behind every statistic, diagnosis, policy, and program are human beings with stories.

The Human Side of Health offers a unique opportunity for healthcare organizations, educational institutions, foundations, public health agencies, human service organizations, behavioral health providers, businesses, and community partners to support innovative approaches to health education and community engagement.

We're currently sharing information with organizations interested in sponsorship, collaboration, and community partnership opportunities.

🌟Announcing: "The Human Side of Health" A Virtual Public Health Play Series...Coming Fall 2026

This fall, The Human Side of Health invites audiences to experience public health in a way that is rarely seen through theatre.

While monthly health observances often focus on data, awareness campaigns, and educational materials, the lived experiences behind those issues can sometimes be overlooked. Theatre has a unique ability to bridge that gap by transforming complex health topics into human stories that foster empathy, reflection, and meaningful conversation.

The Human Side of Health is a virtual public health play series featuring professionally rehearsed and recorded 10-minute plays inspired by important health-related topics and observances. Each production explores the personal, emotional, and social realities that often exist behind health challenges affecting individuals, families, and communities.

What makes this series unique is its use of virtual theatre.

Rather than treating technology as a limitation, we embrace it as part of the storytelling. Every play is specifically written for a virtual environment, incorporating platforms such as telehealth appointments, support groups, family video calls, case management meetings, recovery check-ins, and other forms of digital connection that have become a part of modern life.

For those new to theatre, think of these productions as short dramatic stories performed by actors through a virtual platform. Like a television scene unfolding in real time, audiences witness conversations, relationships, and moments of discovery that illuminate the human experiences behind important health issues.

Each presentation includes:

• A professionally performed 10-minute virtual play

• Themes connected to public health observances and community well-being

• A post-show discussion featuring the playwrights, actors and health professionals

• Free public access through online platforms

Season One will explore topics including recovery, mental health, and diabetes, creating opportunities for audiences to learn, connect, and engage with these issues through the power of theatre.

At a time when health information is everywhere, stories remain one of the most effective ways to build understanding. By bringing together public health and theatre, The Human Side of Health seeks to create space for dialogue, reduce stigma, and remind us that every health issue ultimately has a human face. We need to humanize the data.

Behind the data is are human beings with a stories.

The Human Side of Health is produced by Vintage Soul Productions and proudly sponsored by Feel the Future LLC, organizations committed to using creativity, education, and community engagement to promote health, healing, and human connection.

"I am...because of art.” Art has never just been entertainment in my life. It has been survival. It has been language when I didn’t have the words. It has been my medicine. It has been connection, recovery, resistance, reflection, release, and purpose.

As someone who has spent years working in Human Services, recovery spaces, education, and community health, I’ve witnessed how people carry trauma in the body, grief in silence, and exhaustion in the spirit. I’ve also witnessed what happens when people are given space to move, create, tell stories, laugh, dance, perform, write, and be seen.

Something shifts.

That is why I believe so deeply in the bridge between arts and health. Not as a trend. Not as an “extra.” But as something essential to human wellbeing.

Through theatre, documentary film, storytelling workshops, movement, and community dialogue, I’ve seen art help people process pain, reconnect with themselves, and imagine new possibilities for their lives.

Art reminds people they are still human.

I’m grateful to the Straz Center, the incredible panelists, facilitators, researchers, educators, and artists who are helping push this conversation forward. The future of health must include creativity, expression, culture, and community.

Because for many of us…we are...because of art.

🙏🏾 🎭 🎨 Honored to speak today at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa, Florida 🏖 during the Arts & Mind Village Convening as part of the Arts & Health panel discussion, and to help facilitate the “Your Daily Dance” workshop alongside the incredible dance professor and researcher Merry Lynn Morris.

I’m deeply grateful to the Straz team, especially the Community Engagement and Education staff, for creating such a thoughtful, welcoming, and innovative space for these conversations. Today was a reminder of how powerful it is when artists, educators, researchers, and health professionals come together to explore the intersection of creativity, healing, movement, and community wellbeing.

I especially appreciated hearing fellow panelists discuss social prescribing, the science behind the arts and health connection, and the measurable impact creative expression can have on the body, mind, and nervous system. These conversations matter.

As someone whose work lives at the intersection of storytelling, public health, education, and community healing, it was meaningful to connect with so many passionate people doing this work in different ways.

🙏🏾 Thank you again, Straz Center, for an incredible experience.
