It was a privilege to visit the studio of my friend and fellow sculptor, Han Jin Sub, in Korea yesterday.

We studied together at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara, and reconnecting after so many years highlighted how our paths have evolved over time. Han is now one of Korea’s most renowned sculptors, internationally recognized, including for his recent monumental work at the Vatican. Some friendships endure across decades, much like stone.

It was a privilege to take part in the 2025 International Cartoon and Illustration Exhibition on a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity, contributing as an international jury member during the award ceremony held at Beijing Foreign Studies University.

The event brought together more than 3,100 works from illustrators and cartoonists worldwide, offering a meaningful space for dialogue on creativity, technology, and the role of visual arts in contemporary society.

My sincere thanks to China Daily, to the organizers, and to all colleagues and artists involved for the thoughtful exchange and the inspiring cultural dialogue.

I am pleased to be invited by China Daily to take part in the award ceremony of the International Cartoon and Illustration Exhibition on a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity 2025, an international visual arts event that gathers works from illustrators and cartoonists worldwide.
The ceremony will take place on November 26 at Beijing Foreign Studies University.

This year’s theme, “Technology and Life”, explores how artistic language reflects the ways technology shapes our daily experience.

I have been invited to serve as a member of the international jury and to offer a brief intervention during the ceremony, sharing some reflections on the selected works and on the role of visual arts in contemporary society.

It will be an occasion to engage with artists and scholars from different countries, in a context dedicated to cultural dialogue and research.

A wonderful luncheon in a remarkable Yangon venue, hosted by a local art gallerist and entrepreneur, together with the Italian Ambassador. The occasion followed my lecture at the Italian Embassy and featured a Burmese menu specially created for the event, with a presentation both refined and artistic. For the occasion, the host curated an exhibition of traditional silver pieces from his personal collection, presented with great aesthetic sensibility.
