✍️ Do you have a spooky story lurking in your imagination?

We're looking for teen and adult writers to submit original tales for this year's Scary Tales Tour at the Alex Crawford Hoyt Period House! Each winning story will be transformed into an immersive experience, with rooms throughout the historic house brought to life through sights, sounds, and surprises that will leave visitors looking over their shoulders.

Whether you're a seasoned storyteller or trying your hand at horror for the first time, this is your chance to showcase your creativity, win a cash prize, and see your words become part of one of the Hoyt's most popular events.

Five winning entries will receive $200 and an invitation to attend the dress rehearsal.

💡Did You Know?⚡

While electricity powers our lives today, universal electric service didn’t reach American homes until around 1960. Programs like the Tennessee Valley Authority, established in 1933, and the Rural Electrification Act helped bring power to millions of rural households across the country.

Here at the Hoyt, the shift to electric power was already underway decades earlier. When Mr. and Mrs. Hoyt’s home was first being planned, it was designed to be lit by gas. During construction, however, the plans were updated to include electric lighting—making the Hoyt home part of a technological transformation that would take many American communities years to experience. 💡🏡

Visit the American Innovations Tour and explore how innovations like electricity changed life at home!

Mini Masterpiece Winner: 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑲𝒊𝒔𝒔 by Lydia Pintur (Age 15) after Gustav Klimt

Created between 1907 and 1908, 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑲𝒊𝒔𝒔 is one of the most iconic works of the Art Nouveau movement. Rich with gold leaf, intricate patterns, and symbolic detail, the painting celebrates love, intimacy, and human connection. Klimt’s fusion of decorative design and emotional expression transforms a tender embrace into a timeless masterpiece.
