Made by BlackTree Studio Pottery, and sold at The Potter’s Wife, our stoneware pottery is an artistic, one-of-a-kind take on traditional, functional forms and finishes. You may see a BlackTree Studio bowl as art to use in your daily life. The potter, Steven Skinner, looks for opportunities to improvise with clays, glazes, and traditional techniques, combining colored stoneware, marbled and inlaid
porcelain, and high fire glazes with his hand-built organic shapes. Steven’s pottery embodies the same influences that shaped him as a fine artist: the beauty of textures and colors found in nature, the graphic/gestural sensibility of printmaking, and the unique sculptural forms of artifacts from ancient cultures. As the potter’s wife and partner, I wanted the public to have year-round access to our pottery rather than depend only on annual art shows and regional craft fairs. There are two locations: The Potter’s Wife at BlackTree Studio Pottery, located next to our pottery studio in a lovely rural setting, and The Potter’s Wife at Feeney’s Hometown Goods, located in historic downtown New Carlisle, Indiana. Each space is unique, only 4 miles apart and I suggest you visit both for different and interesting experiences. Steve and I offer the highest customer service to the novice and experienced collector. All visitors are invited to browse, ask questions, purchase work, and enjoy themselves and the experience. If you visit the artist's workshop don't hesitate to ask for a tour of the studio and the kilns. See you soon, Louise Belmont-Skinner The Potter’s Wife
