Loch Katrine's Lady was composed by Phil Cunningham and will be performed in a stunning arrangement by Ryan Corbett. The title likely refers to The Lady of the Lake, Sir Walter Scott's popular narrative poem published in 1810. Set in the Trossachs, much of the action takes place on an island in the middle of Loch Katrine known as "Ellen's Isle". Ryan Corbett will perform this at the April 16 and 17 concerts. Calling all Outlander fans! This week's New Canaan Chamber Music concerts on Thursday, the 16th at 3pm and Friday, the 17th at 7pm feature Scottish accordionist Ryan Corbett, a native of Glasgow, along with Andrew Armstrong, pianist and clarinetist Yoonah Kim.
Ryan has been described as "one of the most astonishing and surprising newcomers in Scottish music!". Ryan performed at the Scottish coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla at St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh. Tickets at www.newcanaanchambermusic.org

The Clarinet Sonatas, Op. 120, Nos. 1 and 2, are a pair of works written for clarinet and piano by the Romantic composer Johannes Brahms. No. 1 will be performed at the April 16 and 17 concerts. They were written in 1894 and are dedicated to the clarinetist Richard Mühlfeld. The sonatas stem from a period late in Brahms's life where he discovered the beauty of the sound and tonal colour of the clarinet. The form of the clarinet sonata was largely undeveloped when Brahms wrote his, after which the combination of clarinet and piano was more readily used in composers’ new works. These were the last chamber pieces Brahms wrote before his death and are considered two of the great masterpieces in the clarinet repertoire. Tickets at www.newcanaanchambermusic.org.

Johann Sebastian Bach's Prelude and Fugue in A minor, BWV 543, nicknamed "The Great,"will be performed at the April 16 and 17 concerts. It is a virtuoso work likely composed around 1715. We are delighted to introduce Scottish accordionist Ryan Corbett .accordion to New Canaan at the April 16 & 17 concerts . Corbett has been hailed as one of the most astonishing and surprising newcomers in Scottish music. He performed at the Scottish Coronation of HM King Charles III and Queen Camilla, and is a Royal Over-Seas League Gold medalist, a BBC New Generation artist, and Classic FM Rising Star.
