The Alfa Art Gallery believes that Visual Art is the ultimate form of communication and is therefore universal in its expression. The Alfa Art Gallery mission is to support emerging and well established artists and to give their work exposure and a critical following within the art community. The Alfa Art Gallery goal is to conduct local, national and international art exhibitions including: oil color, water color, mixed media, sculptures, photography, crafts and glass works. Alfa Art gallery also works as an open art studio – gallery. The exhibiting artists can demonstrate their creative process in the gallery and collectors and gallery visitors can follow and learn about their technique, style and motivation. Alfa Art gallery plays a vital role among visual-arts organizations locally, nationally and internationally by exhibiting, initiating, supporting, presenting, and preserving artists’ work, and by serving as a locus for interdisciplinary art and criticism. Alfa Art gallery provides professional criticism and guidance to exhibiting artists by seasoned art curators. Alfa Art gallery specializes in working with first-time art buyers as well as seasoned collectors interested in enhancing their art collection by acquiring the work of new and market-proven artists. Alfa Art gallery helps collectors and visitors to identify a style of artwork that expresses their personal or company image and purpose while also complimenting the existing home or office aesthetic. Alfa Art gallery creates a hub for New Jersey’s fine art painters, sculptors, book authors, musicians and actors and helps them get exposed to art collectors and visitors. About Alfa Art Gallery:

What to expect at the in-person opening? Our Curatorial intern team has created a slideshow that will show our 13 featured artists' career highlights, along with a few of the paintings included in this exhibition. There will be a walkthrough of the gallery, with additional art critiques given on select works by our Curatorial interns. We hope you can come out and join us for this event!

Introducing J. Jie Li, one of our featured artists in our upcoming exhibition “Liquid Layers”.

J. Jie Li is a watercolor and mixed media artist based in New York. Her paintings draw upon human’s reverence for the natural world, using intense colors and textured mediums to create jaw-dropping landscapes. Depicting themes of desire and vulnerability, her dark and smokey works mimic how the decay of the physical environment mirrors the decay of the human soul. She pulls on concepts from Zen Buddhism, Daoist thought, and Schopenhauerian existential gravity, giving her paintings a powerful spiritual quality. Jie Li’s works subvert watercolor’s typical tendency to be light and delicate with heavy layers of dark and bleeding tones.

Introducing Gail Wood Miller, one of our featured artists in our upcoming exhibition “Liquid Layers”.

Gail Wood Miller is a third-generation artist and retired teacher whose artistic practice includes watercolor, drawing, ink, and photography. Influenced by her mother and grandfather, Miller began drawing at a young age and has continued to connect art with storytelling throughout her life. Her work often explores nature, landscapes, and people, with a focus on movement, emotion, observation, and imagination. Miller has exhibited her work in juried and non-juried shows throughout the Northeast and nationally. Her watercolor and ink illustrations have also been published in the International Herbal Society’s Herb of the Year series, including editions on Yarrow, Ginger, and Viola. Through her art, Miller encourages viewers to appreciate the beauty of the natural world while leaving space for their own imagination and interpretation.

Introducing Jeffery McCredie one of our featured artists in our upcoming exhibition “Liquid Layers”.

Jeffery McCredie is a Pennsylvania-based artist whose lifelong passion for painting began in childhood after discovering Claude Monet’s work. McCredie embraces watercolor for its immediacy and portability, often completing his paintings outdoors. His bright palette and expressive handling of color capture the warmth, atmosphere, and beauty of the landscapes he encounters. Rather than simply documenting a place, his work conveys the experience of being within it: the shifting light, surrounding color, and quiet character of the natural environment. The artworks’ uniqueness is presented through a series of works, including “Art Show,” “Trestle,” and “Philadelphia Skyline in Snow.” Jeffrey McCredie is a member of the Chester County Art Association, the Lancaster County Art Association, the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, and the American Impressionist Society.

Introducing Manman Huang, one of our featured artists in our upcoming exhibition “Liquid Layers”.

Manman Huang (born in Chengdu, China) is a New Jersey-based contemporary painter who has a focus of depicting everyday city life. Her passion for painting comes from her studies in 19th-century Chinese-American trade, in which she learned about the teaching of language and culture between nations. Through her expressive brushwork, vivid color palettes, and her depiction of everyday town life in New Jersey, she’s able to provide her viewers with a unique perspective. Huang has exhibited her work at many different museums and events, such as the Newark Museum of Art, the NJ Arts Annual 2023, Rutgers University, and the Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey. She also involves herself in her community by teaching watercolor painting classes in Maplewood and by contributing artwork to the Lunar Fest of  New Jersey from 2023 to 2025.

Introducing Peggy Dressel, one of our featured artists in our upcoming exhibition “Liquid Layers”.

Peggy Dressel is a watercolor painter from Oakland, New Jersey. She studied at Pratt Institute, The National Academy of Design, and Moore College of Art. Dressel enjoys creating beautiful paintings using vibrant colors to create an illuminating glow in her works. She also values lighting in her works, as it helps to determine the mood, time, and day. Her works focus on playfulness and lightheartedness, evoking a sense of curiosity and happiness. There is also a sense of simplicity in her works, giving her viewers a sense of tranquility and softness. Dressel has received many awards at juried exhibitions, including the Lena Di Gangi Gallery, Nathan’s Gallery, the Dupre Gallery, and many others. Dressel is also a member of the Degas Pastel Society, the Oregon Pastel Society, and the Southeastern Pastel Society. She has also illustrated several children’s books, including Hoops! by Connie Turner and The Marble Jar by Sharon L. Young.

Introducing Alexis Rodefer one of our featured artists in our upcoming exhibition “Liquid Layers”.

Alexis Rodefer is a Pennsylvania based artist who explores her region’s flora and fauna in her artwork utilizing watercolor as her medium. Her use of scientific illustration combined with her ingenious storytelling resulted in three magnificent series- Domestic Absurdity, Versus, and Endangered, Extinct, and Extirpated. In Endangered, Extinct, and Extirpated, Alexis Rodefer commemorates Pennsylvania flora and fauna that is endangered, has gone extinct, or was extirpated. Despite her love for all living creatures in her state, she shows a special fondness for the avian world. Alexis Rodefer’s skill and wit have earned her many awards and recognitions.

Introducing Denise Shaw, one of our featured artists in our upcoming exhibition “Liquid Layers”.

Inspired by a passion for human rights advocacy and ancient philosophy, Denise Shaw’s artworks bridge collective consciousness with a deep compassion for the global condition, forming what she describes as an “authentic habitat” for memory and resistance. Her mixed media practice mirrors this complexity, combining layers of acrylic paint, watercolor, photo transfers, and collage with pumice stone, metal leaf, and sand. Shaw uses irony and whimsy to draw viewers into her imagery, prompting greater awareness and empathy for the global themes her work confronts. Working from her studios in New York City and Connecticut, Shaw has exhibited nationally and internationally at prestigious venues and institutions since the 1980s.

Hana Aviv is a watercolorist based in New Jersey, focused on natural scenes. Aviv’s discovery of peace in nature is used as a primary source of inspiration. She uses natural landscapes to communicate her emotions. In her works such as “Asian Spring” and “Colonial Park,” the use of a vibrant, joyful palette of bright colors brings excitement and delight to the audience. She expresses the light in natural scenes well, using watercolor as her primary medium. The dynamic movement of water across her canvas reflects her sense of awe. Her creative visual works have earned her significant recognition from regional and national art communities. Aviv holds juried Signature Memberships in various societies and engages with historic arts institutions. She has participated in both group and solo exhibitions across New Jersey and New York, including a previous exhibition at Alfa Art Gallery. Aviv has received many awards, including “Artist of the Week” from National Arts Program Magazine.
