I hammered, fit, and welded another segment onto the bottom main form this morning. As the main form is turning and spreading in width, it is more and more difficult and way interesting to fit subsequent segments.
I will anneal and continue hammering the smaller top form this afternoon.
It will be a much more efficient use of time and labor if this pattern of work (segment work AM and hammering work PM) can be sustained.
The mental (concentration) switch between the two midstream in my day is challenging, though, so we’ll see how it goes.

Hammered and fabricated bronze work in progress photo updates. For newcomers, this started as a flat 1/8” thick piece of silicon bronze plate. Form is achieved by hammering which stretches the metal which forces the form. I’m just over halfway with this piece of metal.

Happy to be back at work on my latest and most challenging hammered and fabricated bronze sculpture to date. I have to get this saddle form to curl inward 4-5 more inches. A full day of numerous cycles of hammering and annealing might move the curl by 1 inch, but that is a difficult physical and mental pace. Each inch of curl is more difficult than the last. The camera shake is due to the shock wave produced by the hammering.
