Hartford Durty Beer Rides

Hartford Durty Beer Rides arriving to local beer off pavement as much as possible Maybe best called urban cyclocross? Or just fun rides!?!? hydrate or die!!! a sense of adventure

Chilly's Durty Beer Rides are a great alternative mix to a super fast, spandex oriented roadride and crazy technical mountain biking. Please check out for an idea of the spirit of this new ride in Hartford we hope to do bi-monthly on Sundays. Rides will average 12-15 mph, 20-40 miles and since we'll be a ways out there sometimes; please bring basic breakdown sundries and b

e self-responsible. We're sure to have an assortment of bicycles and riders on singlespeeds, geared bikes, cyclocross bikes and mountain bikes. Please carefully read the event description for each ride as they will vary considerably. Most rides would be best done on a cyclocross bicycle with 700x35's though mountain bikes and other bikes could be just fine depending on the rider. This is not a slowride nor a spandex ride but an adventure on two wheels in mixed terrain! Please bring:
helmet/spare tube/basic tools
pizza toppings
lock and monies for food/drink
water!

The Putnam Bridge (Rt.3 bridge over the Connecticut River) has had an unusable bike lane on it for over 10 years, but there’s been no infrastructure built on either side as far as the approaches to make it accessible and useable. Poor planning.

This project is AGAIN being delayed.

Folks who walk and ride on bicycles need this link across the river already!

SUNDAY JUNE 6th Group Photo - - Show Support for Putnam Bridge Trail over the CT River connecting Wethersfield & Glastonbury!

The trail on the Putnam Bridge itself was built several years ago. Now we just need the trail connections in Wethersfield and Glastonbury completed on land. DOT had planned to start construction in 2021, but unexpectedly postponed to at least 2022. Let’s show DOT that the public supports completing this trail!

Date:: Sunday AM, June 6th

Where and Time:
• 9:30 at the Putnam Park parking lot on Great Meadow Rd, Wethersfield
• 9:45 at the Wethersfield trailhead (base of Putnam Bridge on Great Meadow Rd, Wethersfield)

What: BIG group photo showing how many people care about this trail! The picture below was taken in 2019 with the Putnam Bridge and trailhead in the background. There are 14 adults and 2 kids in the picture. We can do BETTER than that this time!

Bring:
• a mask just in case
• bike is a plus but not required

Optional group bike ride:
This photo-op coincides with a group bike ride from Wethersfield to Glastonbury for CT Trails Day. All are welcome to join the ride, but must register in advance. The ride starts at 9:00 from the Wethersfield Cove. See route map and more info here: CT Trails Day Heritage Way Bike Ride | Facebook

We’ll see you at the group photo and/or the CT Trails ride!

Covid and Winter do not help to organize traditional group rides.
But here's a way to ride with a group without being around other people.
An excuse to get out and ride!
And a great way to find new spots for tasty food!
Hartford Bicycle Tag
Tag! You're it!
Ride your bicycle to the location of the photo in the newest post and comment with a pic of your bici in the same place spot.
Then continue riding and take a photo of your bicycle in a new, easy-to-recognize place. Create a new post with the photo.
Now it's someone else's turn to ride their bicycle to the spot you just posted! Tag!

Rules of the Game:
-Locations must be recognizable and/or easily researchable with context clues.
-Locations must be publicly accessible 24/7.
-Locations must be within Hartford, East Hartford and West Hartford.
-You must take pictures of the old and new locations on the same ride; no banked photos!
-New tag must be posted within 1 hour of getting/posting old tag.
-Sort by "newest posts" not "recent activity" for game to work properly.
-No politics, keep it fun. Be nice.

Our Story

We visit breweries avoiding as much pavement as possible! Bikepaths, singletrack, gravel, abandoned roads... we’ll ride it all. Maybe best called urban cyclocross? Gravel rides? Or just fun rides!?!? Beerventures!?

Rides average 12-15 mph, 20-40 miles and since we'll be a ways out there sometimes; please bring basic breakdown sundries and be self-responsible. We're sure to have an assortment of bicycles and riders on singlespeeds, geared bikes, cyclocross bikes, gravel bikes, adventure bikes and mountain bikes. Please carefully read the event description for each ride as they will vary considerably. Most rides would be best done with at least 700x35's though smaller tires may be ok depending on the rider.

Please check out @MonDayNightRidesKeyWest for an idea of the spirit of this ride. This is not a slowride nor a spandex ride, but a beerventure on two wheels in mixed terrain!
