Start September with a weekly watercolor class!

Adult Studio | Experimenting with Watercolor
Wednesdays, September 2, 9, 16, 30, 1-3 p.m.

Do you pale at the sight of a blank sheet of watercolor paper? Do you mix colors and wonder why it looks like mud? This class is intended to help take the fear out of working with watercolor by exploring the complexities, rules, and regulations of working with the medium, allowing students to hone their skills and add techniques to their repertoire. There will be demonstrations, critiques, one-on-one instruction, and independent working time to experiment with watercolor. Please bring a spirit of experimentation and play! Previous experience with watercolor is not required, but recommended.

The Soul Factory is a high-energy cover band serving up the best of soul, funk, Motown, and pop. Think Stevie Wonder meets Bruno Mars with a horn section that hits like Tower of Power. Our setlist blends timeless classics and modern bangers to keep the dance floor moving all night long.

"Architects of Being: Louise Nevelson and Esphyr Slobodkina" is on view now at the New Britain Museum of American Art.

Bringing together nearly eighty artworks across sculpture, painting, collage, textile, fashion, jewelry, and design, "Architects of Being: Louise Nevelson and Esphyr Slobodkina" places pioneering artists Louise Nevelson (1899–1988) and Esphyr Slobodkina (1908–2002) in dialogue for the first time. Though neither artist was formally trained as an architect, both employed architectural design principles— including spatial construction, material assemblage, and installation—to shape their artistic practices and personas.

This exhibition is organized by the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts (). The exhibition is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, Alan DuBois Fund for Contemporary Craft, and Ellsworth Kelly Foundation. In New Britain, this exhibition is supported by the Chase Family Fund for Curatorial Excellence and National Endowment for the Arts. Additional support provided by Susan and John Alston; the Wolf Kahn Foundation; Jay Bombara and Allison Reilly-Bombara; and David and Sharon Jepson. This Friday's Art Happy Hour features music by the Munzner - Corona-Galan Duo and delicious food by !

Enjoy live music on Friday nights all summer long, with a front-row seat to the best view of Walnut Hill Park. An array of beverages, including local beer, wine, and a craft cocktail menu, as well as snacks, sandwiches, and salads are available for purchase in our Museum Café.

Fridays, 5:30-8 p.m.
Music starts at 5:45 p.m.

Admission is Free to enjoy the music on the Café Terrace. Museum Admission is required to visit the galleries.

Printmaking is foundational to John Hitchcock’s creative practice, offering dynamic potential for experimentation, collaboration, and layered image-making. This series of vividly rendered prints, entitled "Flatlander: Belonging to the Land," addresses the importance of place and ancestral roots. Centered on the Great Plains, homeland of Plains tribal cultures and Hitchcock’s ancestors, the works blend geometric forms, patterns, and symbols with images of animals and military weaponry. Combining autobiographical references with broader themes of Indigenous removal, displacement, belonging, and memory, the series offers pointed responses to human intrusions upon the natural world and one another.

See "John Hitchcock: We are Defined by the Beat" on view at the New Britain Museum of American Art now through January 17.
