Solms Bowling Club

Solms Bowling Club Solms Bowling Club keeps the tradition of the original German community hall alive and rolling. Visitors always welcome! Four additional were added in 1963.

Nine-pin bowling was introduced to Comal County in 1902 by Otto Reinarz. The first alley, then known as Four Mile Creek, had two lanes. In 1936, with a move of about 300 yards and the addition of two lanes, the alley was renamed Solms Bowling Club. The first president of the Solms Bowling Club was R.A. Reinarz. We now have 8 lanes, renovated in 2016, and our current president is Nathan Dolle.

My picture taker had a mishap yesterday so I grabbed a few pictures before leaving. These guys (and gals) are killing it!!

They still need help though. They will be at it for several more hours today and then start again tomorrow. They are really fixing the club up and even doing extra stuff that has needed to be done.

This 128 year old club is gonna look brand new!!

I neglected to update yall yesterday. I stopped by about 7pm last night while Willie and Stella were walking out. They walked back in with me and I was shocked at how much was done yesterday. Those members that showed up yesterday busted butt! They are farther along than originally planned. We are so excited for this upgrade to the club.

Did y'all know that Willie got an amazing deal on flooring and came in under budget to cover the entire club with new flooring??!

They still need help! They are there today laying the floor. Stop by - help - give an hour - this is your club!!

Pictures from yesterday and today.

It's TOMORROW!!

Renovations start Monday (8/17) at 8:30am.

Come help!! ANYONE and EVERYONE is needed. You don't have to be on the board, you don't have to be a man - or a woman, you don't have to be a carpenter, you don't have to have any special skills. We will find you something to help with. You don't have to work all day - give us an hour - or two. We will be working all week until it is done.

Here are some of the things that will need to be done:

* Remove baseboards, sand and repaint them.
* Move all benches and tables to back room.
* Put small carpet sliders on bottom of benches.
* Remove platforms that benches are on.
* Remove old flooring and repair (if needed) under platforms.
* Put down new flooring up to bar and then move benches and tables back.
* Need people to haul flooring pieces to the ones installing so they dont have to get up & down.
* Clean up afterwards.

I'm sure there is more.

ANY AND ALL HELP IS WELCOME AND APPRECIATED. Spread the word!

On July 19th, we held our annual meeting at the club. During that time we elected our board and officers. The board and EC has not changed from last year.

We also presented our Legacy award to Ronny Shafer. Ronny has been a long time member of our club and does so much to help with the daily maintenance of club.

In addition, we presented our two scholarship recipients with certificates. Jaclyn and Logan are both current pinsetters of the club. And Logan even has been bowling with our adult league for a couple of seasons. Both of them are so deserving. AND they both will continue to set pins for a little while longer.

In addition, at this meeting we discussed club renovations. It was necessary to call a special meeting to further discuss these changes.

On August 9th, several members met at the club and via zoom. It was discussed and decided that we would remove the platforms from under the benches and replace the flooring.

This past week the board decided on the flooring and we will beginning the renovations MONDAY!!

If you can help with the renovations please stop by the club. You don't have to be a carpenter or have any special skills - we will find something for you to do to help!! There will be another post shortly with more details.
