I lost someone yesterday who changed the entire direction of my life.

Roger Beasley believed in me. And I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to fully explain what that meant.

I first came to The Villa at Gruene in 2017 - as they were a client of mine, when we began working on rebranding the bar portion of the property. In 2019, I became the Marketing Manager for social media. In 2022, I became General Manager. And in 2024, Roger and Karen took an enormous chance on me and gave me the opportunity to become the owner.

What started as The Villa at Gruene became The Villa, and eventually became Duesy’s Tavern.

Roger got to watch it unfold. He listened to my ideas. Some small. Some probably sounded completely insane. And instead of telling me how to do things, he instructed me to work hard, do it with integrity, plow forward and turn it into whatever I could dream it to be. That kind of trust changes a person.

I don’t know that I had ever had someone outside of my own little world look at me and truly believe that if I was willing to work hard enough, I could figure it out.

Roger did. He gave me an opportunity that I never could have created for myself. Then let me run with it.

Because of Roger and Karen, I got the chance to build something. To screw things up. To learn. To grow. To reinvent it. To dream bigger. And eventually, to make it mine. There would be no Duesy’s Tavern without The Villa. There would be no version of my life that looks like this without Roger and Karen taking a chance on me. I hope Roger knew how seriously I took that chance. I hope he knew how proud I was to show him what we were building. And I hope he knew that every time I pushed this place a little further, tried something new, took another risk or decided we could make it better, there was a little bit of his voice behind it:

Work hard. Have integrity. Keep going...And don't ever touch a $50 bill.

Roger, thank you for believing in me before I completely knew how to believe in myself. Thank you for the opportunity. Thank you for the trust. And thank you for letting me dream.

I promise I’ll keep plowing forward.
