Yesterday, our beloved founder, George Charbonneau, was honored at the Massachusetts State House as a recipient of the Commonwealth Pride Award!

Nominated by State Representative Antonio Cabral, George was recognized for what we at NBFT have always known: he is a force of love, creativity, and dedication that has shaped the cultural soul of the South Coast for over 60 years.
George, alongside his longtime partner and our other beloved founder, the late Armand Marchand, built something truly extraordinary here at NBFT. They didn’t just found a theatre — they built a home where stories are told, voices are lifted, and community is woven together, season after season, year after year. Without George, there is no New Bedford Festival Theatre.
