The Global Cello

The Global Cello Concert/Recital series by Jon Silpayamanant featuring the cello and diverse cello works, in global music contexts, in the Kentuckiana region and beyond.

Also resources for global string tradition and repertoire. What if Johann Sebastian Bach, rather than his brother, Johann Jacob Bach, had lived in the Ottoman Empire? What would the Cello Suites have sounded like had Bach written them in Classical Ottoman style? Come hear a speculative aural journey into the Ottoman Fasıl and find the similarities between Baroque Suites as movements from the respe

ctive cultures are played back to back highlighting the dance origins of the two cultures' multi-movement musical forms. We're in an era where understanding between cultures is needed, and one way to do that is through music. What better way than by celebrating through musical masterpieces from both the West and the Near East?

Tenor version of the Khushtar, an instrument reconstructed by Tursunjiang from mural images at the caves of the Kizil Thousand-Buddha Grottoes and other texts and images from the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Museum.

The first Khushtar was created in 1975. These tenor Khushtar are instruments in the Muqam Performing Arts Troupe/Orchestra of Xinjiang. See them in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGuPRih5xsU.
