The September Culture Connection shines a light on local author and visual artist Liz Collins as she celebrates the launch of her newest novel Whalespeak.

A poet and visual artist as well it is her own work that is featured on the cover. We caught up with Collins just in time for her second book launch celebration for Whalespeak on Friday, September 4 / 4pm at The Book Seller in Grass Valley.

For the next two years, she will be promoting her novel on both coasts, and diving into a new project. Collins kicks off the tour with two Truckee events, one for Tangled Roots Writing Open Mic on Sept 10 at Alibi Ale and the other for Glenshire Porchfest on Sept 13.

CALL FOR ART: SYRCL's 2027 Wild & Scenic Film Festival Art Exhibition

SYRCL's WSFF, in partnership with Nevada County Arts Council, has opened submissions for the Art Exhibition at the 25th annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival.

This year's theme is Momentum, celebrating 25 years of environmental storytelling and the collective power of change. We are especially excited to see work related to this theme.

Carmen just got back from celebrating in Mexico where she received an Honorable Mention at the National Ceramics Prize. Congratulations!

Thank you to everyone that joined us yesterday for the August Creatives Meetup Miners Harmony Music Shop. We had so much fun getting to know the owners, hear about everything they offer the community from music lessons to recording spaces, instruments in consignment and more!

Always a great mix of new faces and old friends, thank you to everyone that joined us.

Next month's meetup will be back on the first Thursday of the month, September 3, at the North Star House.
